At the Wellsworth Hotel, part of the Shaner Hotels portfolio, there is an exciting opportunity for a Food and Beverage Manager. The Wellsworth Hotel is a beautifully restored historic hotel located in Southbridge, Massachusetts, a charming New England town within an hour’s drive from both Boston and Hartford. The hotel boasts 203 modern guest rooms with historic charm, 24,000 square feet of cutting-edge meeting space, and a full-service restaurant and lounge operation. It also features recreational amenities including an indoor pool, a fitness center with racquetball and basketball courts, and functions as an IACC-accredited conference center. The Food and Beverage Manager will play a critical role in overseeing all operations of the restaurant and evening events, ensuring the highest standards of service and quality.

The role demands a dynamic leader to direct and manage the Food and Beverage Department effectively, providing guidance and a service philosophy that prioritizes superior customer service. This individual will be responsible for the development, coordination, and evaluation of the department’s operations. Key responsibilities include training and supervising employees, workload planning, performance appraisal, enforcing compliance with operational standards, and ensuring guest satisfaction. This position requires working a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and various shifts, to meet the business needs. The Food and Beverage Manager must maintain safety and quality standards following hotel and franchise specifications and play a pivotal role in communication across management levels and staff.

This role is suited for a professional with at least two years of supervisory experience in the restaurant or food and beverage field, strong communication skills, familiarity with food safety and cost control, and the ability to manage budgets and employee performance. The ability to handle guest issues effectively and maintain the quality and safety of food and beverage operations is essential. Experience with ServSafe or similar food safety training, alcohol awareness training such as TIPS, and bilingual skills in English and Spanish are advantageous.   • Ability to satisfactorily communicate with guests management and co-workers
  • High school graduate or equivalent some college preferred
  • ServSafe and/or food safety training
  • Alcohol awareness training such as TIPS
  • Familiarity with food and beverage cost controls
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to accurately compute mathematical calculations and use required measurement tools
  • Ability to prepare budgets and ensure cost controls
  • Bilingual English Spanish a plus
  • Knowledge of local activities and attractions appropriate for clientele

Job Duties

  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends holidays and varied shifts
  • Ensure compliance with and completion of all daily operational procedures by the Food and Beverage Department
  • Maintain food and beverage safety and quality based on hotel Shaner and Franchise specifications
  • Establish maintain and train standards and procedures for operations and safe working conditions in the department
  • Respond and handle guest related issues pertaining to the department
  • Ensure communication with General Manager all other Department Managers Supervisors and Staff
  • Manage all aspects of employee performance to ensure productivity and a quality work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
