The Environmental Services Department at University Medical Center Phoenix is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join their team in the role of Environmental Services Worker during the night shift. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, primarily during the evening hours from 11 pm to 7:30 am, with weekend and holiday rotations. Employees in this role are eligible for a $1000 sign-on bonus subject to recruiter-provided eligibility criteria, as well as shift differentials including a flat rate $1 per hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.

The Environmental Services Worker position plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy hospital environment which directly impacts patient care and safety. This role involves performing heavy cleaning and comprehensive floor care, including tasks like carpet cleaning, stripping and refinishing hard floor surfaces, and engaging in special cleaning projects. The person in this role must be skilled in operating and maintaining power cleaning equipment effectively and responding promptly to specialized service requests such as project cleaning, equipment removal, and waste or linen disposal.

Moreover, this position demands excellent customer service skills as the worker interacts with hospital staff, physicians, patients, visitors, and other stakeholders. The Environmental Services Worker must set a model example of courteous responsive service while rigorously adhering to safety and cleanliness standards. Infection control is a critical aspect of the role, with responsibilities that include performing specialized cleaning in clinical and sterile areas, following stringent infection control protocols, proper gowning, and hand hygiene.

The role carries leadership responsibilities to support and guide less experienced staff, assisting in on-the-job training regarding cleaning techniques, chemical usage, supply management, and infection control procedures. Additionally, this position involves daily record-keeping tasks to maintain logs of completed work and infection control activities, fostering accountability and transparency.

Job Duties

  • Respond promptly to all requests for cleaning services via computerized and paper tracking systems
  • Conduct requested cleaning work such as removal, replacement, and cleaning of equipment and furniture
  • Maintain reports by keeping task and infection control logs of completed tasks and events
  • Perform specialty cleaning and infection control in clinical, surgical, and sterile areas
  • Follow proper gowning and cleaning procedures for infectious isolation rooms
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational status of cleaning equipment and report needed repairs
  • Assess environmental conditions to ensure facility safety, neatness, and orderliness
  • Provide leadership and training to less experienced staff on cleaning techniques, chemical use, and infection control
  • Perform scheduled floor care procedures including dust mopping, mopping, stripping, refinishing, burnishing, and carpet extraction
  • Calculate quantities and mix ratios of cleaning chemicals
  • Communicate and collaborate with supervisors and facilities staff about repair status and service requests
  • Model responsive customer service and safe work practices
