Job Description

Vertex is a leading global biotechnology company dedicated to transforming the lives of people with serious diseases through innovative scientific research and development. Focused on advancing therapies that address unmet medical needs, Vertex has grown to become a pioneer in the biotechnology industry with a commitment to developing life-changing treatments for rare and serious conditions. The company prides itself on its strong corporate culture that fosters inclusion, innovation, and collaboration across all levels of the organization. With operations spanning across multiple regions worldwide, Vertex is well-positioned to deliver breakthrough therapies to patients in need and support healthcare providers with comprehensive patient support programs. Vertex offers a dynamic and supportive work environment with competitive compensation and a robust benefits package designed to help employees thrive both professionally and personally. This includes market-leading medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, educational assistance programs including student loan repayment, commuting subsidies, retirement savings plans, charitable donation matches, and much more.

Vertex is currently expanding its Kidney Patient Support Program by building a field reimbursement team aimed at facilitating access to novel therapeutics targeting serious kidney diseases, including Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), B cell-mediated diseases, and other genetic kidney disorders. In this context, the company seeks a dedicated and collaborative Field Reimbursement Manager to join the team and serve as a local subject matter expert to nephrology practices across a multistate territory. This field-based role involves educating healthcare providers’ offices on non-promotional access and reimbursement pathways to ensure timely availability of prescribed Vertex kidney therapies for patients. The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge of payer ecosystems, insurance processes, and specialty pharmacy benefits to support patient access, troubleshoot reimbursement challenges, and navigate complex coverage policies. Using strong relationship-building skills, the Field Reimbursement Manager will compliantly establish and maintain connections with nephrology office staff, including care team members and administrative personnel responsible for prior authorizations and insurance documentation.

Key responsibilities include providing in-service training and education on regional payer policies, formulary updates, prior authorization and medical exception criteria, coding and billing requirements, distribution pathways, hub services, and reimbursement workflows. This role requires managing a geographically diverse territory while prioritizing accounts based on patient need, payer dynamics, and program demand. The Field Reimbursement Manager will adapt their engagement strategy to align with existing office workflows, avoiding disruptions and inefficiencies, and develop tailored engagement plans that reflect local payer landscapes and practice resources to minimize patient access barriers.

Vertex places high importance on compliance and confidentiality. The candidate must adhere strictly to non-promotional guidelines and all relevant legal, compliance, and privacy regulations. Protecting patient health information confidentiality and applying program business rules to deliver consistent, compliant patient and customer experiences are fundamental components of the role.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with specialty biologics, rare disease therapies, or complex pharmacy benefit products, and account management experience working directly with healthcare providers and office staff to resolve complicated access challenges. Strong analytical abilities, data-driven decision-making skills, and proficiency with CRM systems and field access tools are essential. The position requires flexibility to travel 50-70% within the assigned territory to provide onsite and virtual training and support. A bachelor’s degree in healthcare, life sciences, or business is preferred, with advanced degrees considered a plus. Compensation for this role ranges from $136,000 to $204,000 annually, plus eligibility for bonuses and equity awards. Vertex supports employee growth and wellbeing through comprehensive benefits and an inclusive company culture, making this an excellent opportunity for professionals passionate about making a difference in patient access to innovative kidney therapies.
