Job Description

SOC, a Day & Zimmermann company, is a leading provider of advanced technology solutions and services, particularly in the defense and federal sectors. With a strong commitment to innovation and excellence, SOC supports critical missions by delivering highly skilled personnel and cutting-edge technologies to its clients. The company fosters a dynamic and inclusive work environment that emphasizes continuous learning, technical expertise, and customer satisfaction. SOC's dedication to quality and compliance has established it as a trusted partner for federal agencies and commercial clients alike.

This Direct-Hire opportunity is seeking a Federal Principal Product Support Engineer to join SOC's esteemed client team in a hybrid onsite role based in Oklahoma City, OK; Dallas or Houston, TX; or Montgomery, AL. This role requires an active Secret Clearance and US Citizenship due to the sensitive nature of the work with federal clients. The position involves senior-level field engineering responsibilities that are far beyond traditional support or escalation management roles. The engineer will engage hands-on with the entire infrastructure stack, which includes bare metal hardware, hypervisors such as VMware and KVM, networking components, container orchestration with Kubernetes, and application-layer troubleshooting. This comprehensive technical depth is essential for diagnosing and resolving complex issues affecting production environments in real-time.

The Federal Principal Product Support Engineer acts as the primary escalation point for on-site support teams within the client's Private Cloud Enterprise environments. The role demands proactive ownership of technical challenges by filtering initial symptoms, isolating root causes, and producing detailed defect reports with reproducible steps that inform product engineering teams. Close collaboration with engineering teams is mandatory, including validating patches and contributing to product improvements that ensure operational stability and security. The engineer will also lead compliance efforts related to DISA STIGs and federal audit readiness, highlighting the role’s critical importance in maintaining security standards.

Day-to-day activities encompass receiving and triaging escalations, performing deep technical troubleshooting across multiple domains such as virtualization, container management, operating systems, enterprise networking, and hybrid cloud platforms. The role requires creating training materials and runbooks to enable field engineers, enhancing monitoring tools, and participating in incident management and customer communication. The engineer serves as a trusted advisor to federal stakeholders, providing clear and accurate incident summaries and technical analyses while fostering long-term client relationships.

Candidates must possess at least 10 years of hands-on experience in infrastructure engineering or technical support, with proven skills in root cause analysis across multiple infrastructure layers. Strong written communication capabilities are essential for producing engineering-quality defect reports and executive incident summaries. Preferred qualifications include certifications in VMware, Kubernetes, Red Hat Linux, and cloud platforms, as well as experience with federal security frameworks like DISA STIG and NIST 800-53 in operational capacities. Experience in training large field teams and familiarity with infrastructure automation tools and CI/CD pipelines will be highly advantageous.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of federal technology support, driving impactful solutions in secure private cloud environments. SOC provides a supportive and challenging environment where the engineer’s expertise directly contributes to national security and technological advancement.
