Job Description
Scholastic is a globally recognized publishing, education, and media company dedicated to fostering a love of reading and learning among children and young adults. Established as a leader in educational materials and children’s books, Scholastic’s mission is centered around igniting lifelong literacy and learning by providing teachers, parents, and young readers with quality books and innovative literacy programs. Scholastic’s commitment to educational excellence is reflected in its wide range of products and services, including classroom magazines, educational software, and the ever-popular Scholastic Book Fairs, which are held in schools across the United States and other countries.
The Scholastic Book Fair is a unique and engaging event that brings communities together through the joy of reading. These fairs are held in local schools and offer students the chance to explore an extensive selection of books and related merchandise in a festive, hands-on environment. This experience not only promotes literacy but also supports schools by generating funds that can be used to improve library resources and classroom supplies. The success of these events depends heavily on the passion and dedication of the team behind them, which includes sales consultants and event coordinators working with schools to create memorable fairs that inspire children and adults alike.
The Sales Consultant and Event Coordinator role at Scholastic is a pivotal position that directly impacts the growth and success of the Book Fair programs. This full-time, regular seasonal role is primarily remote, offering flexibility while requiring strong organizational and project management skills. The position is paid on an hourly basis, ranging from $22 to $26 per hour, and includes access to various benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, a generous employee discount on Scholastic merchandise, and a 401(k) plan with company match. Additionally, employees have the possibility of having summers off, aligning well with the academic calendar.
In this role, the consultant is responsible for managing a defined territory and a portfolio of school accounts with the ultimate goal of increasing bookings, maximizing fair performance, and cultivating long-term partnerships with schools. The job involves sales and event management functions, including influencing customer decisions, closing business deals, upselling additional programs, and ensuring the seamless execution of the fairs. Strong relationship-building skills are essential, as this position requires interaction with school hosts, local educators, and the broader school community to ensure a high-impact and financially successful event.
Success in this role requires a blend of sales expertise, event leadership, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines. The consultant will be expected to actively manage their sales pipeline, maintain detailed records in a CRM system, and consistently meet or exceed performance goals. The ability to influence decisions through persuasive communication, coaching, and strategic recommendations is crucial. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the consultant acts as a key ambassador for Scholastic’s mission to support literacy and learning through the power of books.
Furthermore, this role offers an enriching opportunity for motivated individuals who enjoy connecting with people and contributing to meaningful educational outcomes. It is an ideal position for those looking to build a career in sales within a purpose-driven, educational organization. Scholastic values diversity and inclusion and is committed to fostering a workplace where every individual feels respected, welcomed, and empowered to contribute to the company’s ongoing success. The anticipated start date for the next training class is August 31, 2026, inviting applicants to prepare for an exciting journey with one of the most respected names in educational publishing.
