Job Description

The High Desert Museum is a renowned cultural institution located in Bend, Oregon, dedicated to sharing the diverse stories of the High Desert region through its rich collections of art, history, culture, and the natural world. Established in 1982, the Museum has grown into a vital community resource and one of the region's most popular destinations, featuring 100,000 square feet of indoor space with permanent and rotating exhibitions, as well as expansive outdoor exhibits such as the Autzen Otter Exhibit, the Donald M. Kerr Birds of Prey Center, and the High Desert Living History Ranch. Recognized for its excellence, the Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is a Smithsonian Affiliate, and has received prestigious awards including the Western Museums Association's Charles Redd Award for Exhibition Excellence and the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

The High Desert Museum is currently seeking a full-time Facilities Technician to join its talented and diverse Facilities Division team. This non-exempt, hourly position reports directly to the Chief of Facilities and is pivotal in maintaining the physical integrity and safety of the Museum's buildings, systems, and grounds. The salary range for this role is $50,000 to $62,000 per year, depending on experience. The Facilities Technician will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the Museum's infrastructure—including water systems, electrical controls, HVAC, sewer, fire suppression, irrigation, landscaping, alarm and security systems, forest management, and snow removal—are operating smoothly and safely.

This role requires a versatile tradesperson with a broad skill set and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems independently. The successful candidate will have experience in a variety of trades, including painting, plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical control systems. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment are essential, as is a passion for maintaining a safe and welcoming setting for the Museum's guests and staff. The work schedule is Sunday through Thursday, providing a unique alignment with the Museum's operational needs.

In addition to a competitive salary, the High Desert Museum offers robust benefits, including comprehensive health and welfare plans, 10.5 paid holidays annually, four personal days per calendar year (prorated based on hire date), and two weeks of paid vacation accrued in the first year. This position offers not only an opportunity to contribute to preserving and enhancing a significant cultural and educational resource but also to grow professionally in a supportive, inclusive workplace.

The Museum values diverse professional and lived experiences and encourages all passionate individuals who believe they have the capabilities to thrive in this role to apply. The organization is committed to equal employment opportunities and prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic. Join a workplace where learning and engagement with the community come together seamlessly, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful High Desert landscape.
