The Executive Chef role at Cogir Senior Living is a vital leadership position responsible for overseeing the community's dining services and culinary operations. This position demands excellence in delivering an exceptional culinary experience that significantly enhances the quality of life for residents. The Executive Chef manages all facets of the kitchen and dining program, from menu planning and food procurement to meal preparation and service. Additionally, this role involves managing food, supply, and labor budgets to ensure operational efficiency. The Executive Chef hires, trains, and leads a high-performing team focused on achieving service excellence and maintaining compliance with all regulatory and health standards. This position also entails inventory control, collaboration with staff and residents to tailor menus to preferences and budget constraints, and event planning, including special and themed meals.

Job Requirements

  • Culinary degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in food preparation
  • At least 3 years of progressive management experience as an Executive Chef
  • Serve Safe Manager (Food Handler Certification)
  • Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and food codes
  • Ability to manage food, supply, and labor budgets
  • Experience in menu development and event planning
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Compassion and dedication to senior living service

Job Qualifications

  • Culinary degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in food preparation
  • At least 3 years of progressive management experience as an Executive Chef
  • Serve Safe Manager (Food Handler Certification)
  • Experience with restaurant openings is a plus
  • Experience with special events and banquets is a plus
  • Proven track record of building teams and meeting financial goals
  • Creativity and experience in menu development
  • Previous experience in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Senior Living, or hotel settings is a plus
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to motivate team

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations and staffing of the community kitchen and dining venues
  • Manages and supervises all culinary services staff including scheduling, assignment, direction, performance review, hiring, and corrective action
  • Menu planning and executing meal preparation and events, assisting staff with back and front-of-the-house operations
  • Maintain inventory control of food, beverages, supplies, and equipment
  • Ensure that all food is prepared, stored, and served according to company standards and state/local health code requirements
  • Understand and maintain monthly and annual budgets for the culinary services department, including documentation of monthly food, supplies, and labor spending
  • Collaborate with staff and residents to plan and develop recipes and menus tailored to residents' preferences and monthly budgets
  • Ensure resident and family member satisfaction is maintained
  • Responsible for planning, preparing, and executing special events and themed meals
