Job Description
One40 Rooftop is an upscale Modern American restaurant located in the heart of the Financial District, perched high above the 9/11 Memorial. It is a distinguished dining destination known for its exceptional culinary craftsmanship, thoughtful hospitality, and breathtaking panoramic views of the New York City skyline. One40 Rooftop embraces a philosophy centered on unity, simplicity, seasonality, and authenticity, which is reflected in its carefully curated menu and dining experience. The restaurant celebrates food as a universal language that brings people together, creating moments of connection through the art of hospitality and gastronomy. With a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients and innovative culinary techniques, One40 Rooftop offers guests a sophisticated yet approachable Modern American cuisine experience in a stunning rooftop setting.
The position of Executive Chef at One40 Rooftop is a highly coveted leadership role where creativity meets operational excellence. The Executive Chef will be responsible for overseeing all culinary operations and leading a talented kitchen team with precision, inspiration, and a commitment to excellence. This role demands a visionary culinary leader who can elevate the restaurant's guest experience through innovative menu development, consistent food quality, and seasonal adaptation. The Executive Chef will bring a perfect balance of artistry and disciplined operational management to ensure that every dish not only delights guests but also meets cost control and organizational standards. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future culinary direction of a marquee rooftop restaurant in one of New York City's most vibrant neighborhoods.
The Executive Chef will lead the continuous creation and refinement of seasonal Modern American menus incorporating global influences that align with One40 Rooftop's philosophy. Responsibilities include curating tasting menus, prix-fixe options, holiday specials, and unique chef-led dining experiences, all presented with a high-end level of finesse and flavor balance. Operational leadership extends beyond menu creation to managing daily kitchen activities, ensuring smooth and efficient service, maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and compliance with health department regulations. Team management is a cornerstone of this role, involving recruiting, training, mentoring, and retaining a motivated and accountable culinary team while fostering a collaborative and respectful kitchen culture. The Executive Chef will also be held accountable for managing food costs, vendor relations, inventory control, and collaborating with ownership and operations leadership on budgeting and financial forecasting.
Strong communication and collaboration with front-of-house leadership ensure a seamless guest experience. The Executive Chef will actively participate in management meetings, strategic planning, and special events to help position One40 Rooftop as a leader in the competitive New York City dining scene. This position requires at least 7-9 years of culinary leadership experience in upscale or fine dining settings, a deep understanding of Modern American cuisine with global influences, and a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team with emotional intelligence and operational discipline. Experience in high-volume NYC restaurants is highly preferred. The Executive Chef role at One40 Rooftop not only offers competitive compensation with performance-based incentives but also provides creative freedom within a supportive ownership and leadership framework, allowing the chef to build a lasting culinary legacy while working in a dynamic and inspiring environment.
