Job Description
Chartwells K12 is a leading provider of customized dining programs dedicated to enhancing the nutrition and overall well-being of students across school districts. With a workforce of over 16,000 associates serving 4,500 schools, Chartwells brings decades of expertise in cuisine, nutrition, and foodservice operations. The company’s core mission centers around delivering meals that leave students both happier and healthier, embracing food innovation, quality, and safety in every aspect of its service. As a division of Compass Group, an international leader in foodservice management, Chartwells stands out by creating kid-focused dining experiences that satisfy diverse palates while adhering to rigorous nutritional guidelines designed specifically for K-12 environments.
This dynamic and impactful role is for an Executive Chef who will lead culinary operations district-wide, catering to a variety of student populations within a school district setting. This position is both inspirational and hands-on, requiring a leader who is deeply passionate about crafting nutritious, high-quality meals that consistently meet established standards for presentation, flavor, and safety. As the Executive Chef, you will have a significant responsibility to mentor and develop the culinary team, fostering a culture where creativity flourishes within the parameters of K-12 nutrition. Your leadership will translate into training programs, hands-on coaching, and proactive collaboration with on-site chefs and district management teams.
Your role will also involve partnering closely with different departments such as Dining Services, Marketing, and Finance to design menus that not only appeal to students but also maximize efficiency and minimize food waste. The position requires deep knowledge of menu planning, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and food safety protocols. The Executive Chef ensures that all culinary operations uphold the highest standards while aligning with company and governmental policies, including sanitation and health regulations.
This position typically offers full-time employment with competitive compensation and includes comprehensive benefits. Other forms of compensation and benefits encompass medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401K retirement plans, paid time off (PTO), and additional perks that support employee well-being and work-life balance. Chartwells K12 is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, providing a supportive work environment for all employees.
The ideal candidate for this role possesses a minimum of three years of progressive culinary or kitchen management experience, preferably with expertise in high-volume and complex foodservice operations. Strong operational knowledge in batch and institutional cooking, coupled with hands-on chef experience, is essential. A focus on food trends, cost controls, sanitation, and presentation is critical to success. Technology proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications, is required, and ServSafe certification is highly desirable.
By joining Chartwells K12 as the Executive Chef, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the student dining experience and contributing to their health and happiness daily. You will lead with passion, creativity, and operational excellence, ultimately driving the success of the district’s foodservice program and leaving a lasting impact on the community you serve.
