The role of the Kitchen Manager at Carleton-Willard Village is both dynamic and critical to the community's mission to enhance the resident experience through superior dining services. This full-time position involves overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu development, food preparation, presentation, and service. The Kitchen Manager works closely with the Director of Dining Services to ensure compliance with health regulations and food safety standards as set by the Department of Public Health. They lead and manage the kitchen production staff, fostering a productive and supportive work environment through training, mentoring, and supervision.
An essential component of this role is to conduct regular reviews of kitchen production schedules, food inventory management, and quality control to maintain optimal operations. The Kitchen Manager ensures that food substitutions during shortages maintain or exceed quality expectations and that food waste is minimized through careful evaluation of leftover foods. Special organizational functions also require the Kitchen Manager's involvement to assist with food preparation and service, highlighting the role's hands-on nature.
Participation in management and departmental meetings is a regular responsibility, aimed at addressing operational issues and enhancing service delivery. The Kitchen Manager collaborates closely with the in-house dietician, ensuring all therapeutic dietary needs and regulatory requirements are meticulously followed. - Minimum of 5 years of cooking experience
- Prior supervisory experience

Job Duties
- Develops, reviews and revises menus with the director of dining
- Oversees all kitchen operation including food preparation, presentation and service
- Maintains highest standards of food safety and food sanitation in accordance with health regulations and department of public health
- Leads, trains, mentors and manages kitchen production staff
- Conducts weekly production meeting to review production sheets, for accurate recipe numbers and to ensure availability of food items needed
- Reviews weekly kitchen production schedule for staffing and work responsibilities
- Monitors and maintains log of any food shortage during meals and substitutes with items of equal or greater quality
- Reviews daily leftover food in all refrigerators and evaluates usage
- Maintains workable food inventory, ordering additional items and rotating food items as needed
- Assists as needed in food preparation and service at special organizational functions
- Attends weekly departmental management meetings and reviews outstanding issues with the director of dining services
- Holds weekly HC meetings to discuss changes/issues with tray line, tray passing, and delivery
- Familiarizes themselves with the diet manual and works closely with our in-house dietician for therapeutic diet input and to ensure compliance with dietary requirements
- Ensures food quality and service is of the utmost quality for every level of care provided
- Enhances our residents’ experience by gathering feedback to continually improve our dining program and culinary offerings
- Conducts sanitation inspections of the working area
- Committed to working with residents and families to develop and implement strategies that promote person-centered care
- Applies 5 star customer service approach in all aspects of job
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
- Reports to the appropriate managers any known or suspected violations of policy and procedures, regulations or standards of conduct
- Attends required in-services and training
- Performs additional duties as assigned
