Job Description
Bamboo Sushi is a renowned restaurant of purpose that emphasizes delivering an extraordinary dining experience through its exceptional food, attentive service, and vibrant spirit. Founded with a commitment to inspire through culinary innovation and sustainability, Bamboo Sushi brings a unique blend of traditional techniques and modern flavors to the dining world. As a pioneer in sustainable sushi practices, the restaurant aims to create a positive impact not only on its guests but also on the environment and the community it serves. Operating from multiple locations, Bamboo Sushi has established itself as a leader in the restaurant industry, especially for those seeking thoughtful cuisine paired with a conscientious approach to sourcing and preparation.
Located in San Ramon, CA at Bishop Ranch, Bamboo Sushi is currently seeking to hire a dedicated Executive Chef. This full-time position offers a competitive salary, approximately $90,000 or more based on experience, along with quarterly bonus potential and comprehensive benefits including health insurance options and an employee assistance program. Vacation time starts at up to three weeks for years one through five of employment, reflecting the company’s commitment to work-life balance. Additional perks include a 401(k) plan, employee discounts, and numerous opportunities for advancement and professional education within the company.
The role of Executive Chef at Bamboo Sushi is both challenging and rewarding. The successful candidate will be responsible for cultivating a culture of positivity and accountability within the kitchen and the larger restaurant team. This person will drive operational excellence by ensuring top-notch food quality, superb service standards, and an outstanding guest experience. With a focus on leadership and management, the Executive Chef will oversee all kitchen and sushi operations, managing staff while positively influencing the restaurant’s profit and loss performance.
Key responsibilities include overseeing critical quality control points for every menu item, guaranteeing the proper portioning and precise plating of dishes to maintain consistency and meet Bamboo Sushi’s high standards. The Executive Chef leads the hiring, training, and ongoing development of kitchen employees, ensuring that every team member contributes to a cohesive and dynamic work environment. This role requires exercising independent judgment and discretion regularly, especially when handling sensitive and confidential information relating to the business and its employees.
A minimum of two years of management experience leading back-of-house operations in a high-volume, full-service kitchen is required, alongside at least five years of related culinary experience or training. While sushi experience is preferred, it is not mandatory. The position demands a valid Food Handler’s card to comply with health and safety regulations.
Bamboo Sushi champions inclusivity and diversity within its workforce. The restaurant believes in respecting every individual’s thoughts and ideas, fostering an inspiring environment where all employees feel proud to contribute. Equal pay, equal rights, and equal opportunity for advancement are foundational values at Bamboo Sushi, which actively works with its employees, guests, partners, and the community to build pathways toward equality for all.
The physical environment consists primarily of a fast-paced, full-service restaurant with frequent distractions and loud noises. Essential physical duties include maneuvering throughout the restaurant and office spaces to access food, beverage items, and equipment; operating basic office and restaurant equipment; ascending and descending ladders or stairs for maintenance tasks; and communicating clearly and accurately with customers and team members. Candidates must also have the ability to distinguish different tastes and manage working in a noisy environment.
Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified individuals with disabilities to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to perform the essential functions of the Executive Chef role. Interested applicants who require accommodations during the hiring process are encouraged to contact the HR department for assistance.
