The Hospital Cleaning Specialist role at Keck Medicine of USC is critical to maintaining a hygienic and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The individual in this position will be responsible for thoroughly cleaning patient rooms and various hospital areas in accordance with established departmental policies. This role requires consistent application of infection control practices and safe disposal of various types of hospital-generated waste, including biohazard and pharmaceutical materials, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA. The position demands attention to detail in cleaning tasks ranging from dusting and mopping to carpet scrubbing and disinfecting fixtures.
Beyond routine cleaning, this role also includes responsibilities for identifying and reporting maintenance needs, replenishing restroom supplies, and assisting in the general upkeep of public, surgical, ancillary, patient, and office areas. This position requires someone who is a collaborative team player with a positive attitude, capable of demonstrating respect and good interpersonal skills across the hospital community. Job Requirements
- 6 to 12 months customer service experience in a team-oriented, high-volume, fast-paced, guest-centric environment or 6 to 12 months healthcare housekeeping, hotel, or hospitality experience
- ability to read and write basic English
- demonstrate excellent customer service behavior
- able to function independently and as a member of a team
- fire life safety training (LA City) must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only)
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Maintain established orderliness, cleaning, and safety standards set by the department
- Comply with proper patient room cleaning policies
- Properly dispose of trash, empty containers, packing boxes, biohazard/medical waste, HIPAA information, pharmaceuticals, batteries, and any other hospital-generated waste
- Practice infection control standards and requirements
- Scrub, refinish, burnish, and clean carpets/chairs in public, ancillary, patient, surgical, and office areas of the facility
- Dust, mop, and clean public, ancillary, patient, surgical, and office areas
- Complete high and low dusting on vertical and horizontal surfaces following departmental procedures
- Observe and report items and equipment in need of repair to appropriate person
- Clean and disinfect all fixtures in various facility areas
- Clean, disinfect, and replenish supplies in restrooms in public and patient areas according to department policy
- Remove and replace sharps containers, pharmaceutical, and biohazardous containers per hospital policy
- Document performed tasks
- Demonstrate behavior that supports the USC University Hospital mission
- Attend required orientation and training seminars
- Demonstrate respect and positive interpersonal skills with patients, clients, the public, managers, coworkers - a team player
- Perform any additional duties as assigned
