Job Description
The University of New Mexico's Dermatology Department is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Events Planner to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of a diverse portfolio of academic, educational, and professional events. As part of an esteemed academic medicine and healthcare institution, the University of New Mexico provides a robust environment that fosters medical excellence, educational innovation, and research advancement. The Department of Dermatology contributes significantly to this mission by offering cutting-edge clinical care, groundbreaking research opportunities, and comprehensive educational programs for healthcare professionals and learners.
This part-time, term staff position is based at the Health Sciences Center (HSC) in Albuquerque, NM, and offers a competitive monthly salary range of $3,802.93 to $5,097.73. The role is exempt and includes eligibility for comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with educational benefits including tuition remission and dependent education programs. Employment is contingent upon compliance with institutional policies, including influenza vaccination and successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
The primary responsibility of the Events Planner is to serve as a vital liaison among faculty, clinicians, researchers, learners, industry partners, and institutional stakeholders to successfully deliver high-quality academic and clinical programs. This includes organizing conferences, symposia, workshops, and continuing medical education (CME) activities. The position demands exceptional project management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of academic healthcare environments and CME accreditation requirements. The planner must adeptly manage event timelines, project plans, and budgets while coordinating logistics such as venue selection, catering, audiovisual support, registration systems, and technology platforms including virtual and hybrid event formats.
Beyond technical proficiencies, the role requires strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse groups including healthcare professionals, faculty members, and administrative staff. Adaptability and initiative are essential traits to navigate the dynamic healthcare and academic settings. The planner is expected to demonstrate problem-solving capabilities and a high level of customer service orientation to ensure seamless event execution and participant satisfaction.
This role provides ample opportunity for professionals with experience in academic medicine, healthcare, higher education, or research institutions to contribute to the educational objectives of a leading university. Familiarity with virtual event platforms such as Zoom, Teams, or Webex is beneficial, alongside previous experience working with physicians, faculty, and healthcare professionals. The position emphasizes both independent initiative and collaborative teamwork, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of academic medical events.
As part of the University of New Mexico’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Dermatology Department encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer, making decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class. The role’s strategic contribution to academic and professional development within the healthcare sector underscores its importance in sustaining high standards of medical education and continuous professional growth.
