The Event Support Specialist position is a key role within the University Centers and Events (UCE) division of the UNT-Student Affairs department. This division manages important facilities such as the University Union, Gateway Center, and Coliseum, which provide significant programs, services, and spaces that enrich the educational experience of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. As an Event Support Specialist stationed in Denton, Texas, the incumbent works closely under the direct supervision of the Director and collaborates with event scheduling staff to ensure seamless event setups provide an exceptional environment for university functions.
This role focuses on overseeing part-time staging assistants and managing the setup of open lounge areas, meeting rooms, and large multifunction ballroom spaces. The specialist is responsible for minor custodial duties as required to maintain a clean and safe event environment. Utilizing specialized tools such as Event Management Systems and Computer-Aided Design software, the Event Support Specialist ensures accurate and timely preparation for daily event activities by printing precise event reports and space layouts.
The position offers a full-time employment classification with a base salary starting at $31,720, commensurate with education and experience. Importantly, it is a Texas Retirement System (TRS) eligible position, providing beneficial retirement options for staff. The schedule includes shifts from Sunday through Friday with a mix of midday to late evening hours.
Candidates for the Event Support Specialist role should possess strong competencies in managing space configurations and event technologies, along with practical experience with equipment and materials specific to event setups. The ability to lead and coordinate student workers, maintain safety standards, and adapt quickly to changes is essential. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years related experience with some experience in lead or supervisory role
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to keep records and complete forms accurately
- Ability to direct and manage the work of others
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks such as measuring
- Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating equipment, and lifting
- Familiar with campus wide safety guidelines and procedures that may require wearing protective footwear and support belts
- Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision

Job Duties
- Demonstrates and executes working knowledge of space configuration and event management software
- Demonstrates knowledge of equipment, materials and methods required for job performance
- Understands meeting room capacities and uses approved procedures and task frequency to achieve the appropriate level of room setup specifications
- Quality checks event setups to ensure accuracy
- Responsible for meeting cleaning standards for areas of responsibility
- Executes event setup change requests in a timely and professional manner
- Demonstrates ability to retain and rehire student workforce for continuous operational success
- Possesses knowledge and demonstrates ability to train new student staff
- Demonstrates ability to schedule student crews in most cost-effective manner
- Demonstrates ability to address performance issues promptly and professionally within guidelines
- Manage and support the areas student employee leadership model
- Completes all work using safe work habits and methods to prevent injuries
- Uses all equipment properly and in the manner intended and directed
- Assigned equipment is kept in good working order and returned to proper area when finished with use
- Reports any unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor immediately
- Works in harmony with others through active, positive, and courteous interactions
- Effectively conveys appropriate information accurately and rapidly to supervisory personnel, coworkers, and supervised students
- Identifies and solves problems associated with event setups appropriately
- Is flexible in accepting assignments, adjusting work priorities and adapting to change
- Exhibits conservation, efficiency, and responsibility in the use of university resources
- Conducts annual equipment and furniture inventory for the department
- Responsible for the coordination of event setups both in and around the Union
- Delivery of event equipment to other locations as required
