Job Description

The City of Omaha is a vibrant and growing municipality dedicated to providing outstanding service to its residents and visitors alike. As a government entity, the City plays a crucial role in managing public services, supporting community development, and enhancing the quality of life through a wide array of programs and initiatives. Among its various departments, the Parks, Recreation, and Public Property Department works diligently to oversee public events and ensure that the city's offerings meet the high standards expected by both locals and tourists. With a commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity, and community engagement, the City of Omaha continuously seeks motivated individuals to join its workforce in a variety of roles that contribute to the city’s dynamic environment.

The part-time Event Staff Worker position within the City of Omaha is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy engaging with the public and contributing to the smooth operation of major events and visitor services in the metropolitan area. This role involves diverse responsibilities such as ticket taking at public events, checking passes, and assisting security personnel in directing parking for vehicles. Additionally, the worker monitors the placement and performance of other event staff, including ushers, pass gate personnel, and those stationed in the press box, view club, restrooms, and concourse areas. While routine work is performed under close supervision, the position demands a proactive attitude to ensure that events run efficiently and guests have positive experiences.

Part of the role includes working directly with visitors either at the Visitor Center or at partner events. As an ambassador for Omaha, the Event Staff Worker welcomes visitors, provides them with helpful information about attractions and facilities available in the Omaha metro area, and assists in making their visit memorable and enjoyable. Ideal candidates should be passionate about customer service, have excellent communication skills, and enjoy working in a team-oriented environment. The position requires flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the City's dedication to accommodating a wide range of public events.

Candidates with some college coursework in Hospitality Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or related fields are preferred but not mandatory. The pay varies based on experience, making it accessible to a broad group of applicants. Though this is a part-time, seasonal role without traditional employee benefits, it serves as an ideal entry point to gain valuable experience in event management, customer service, and community engagement within a respected municipal organization.

Overall, the part-time Event Staff Worker position with the City of Omaha offers a rewarding experience working outdoors at various public venues or within visitor information settings. The role requires attention to detail, a friendly and professional demeanor, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions swiftly. Successful applicants will play a key role in enhancing the visitor experience while supporting the City’s operational needs for public events, reinforcing Omaha's reputation as a welcoming and well-organized city for residents and tourists alike.
