Job Description
Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is a respected educational institution committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for its community. MPS offers various recreational programs aimed at enhancing the lives of young people and their families. Among these initiatives is the Midnight League program, which plays a crucial role in providing structured, supervised recreational activities during evening hours. The program promotes physical activity, teamwork, and positive community engagement while ensuring a safe environment for all participants and spectators. This program is part-time and specifically tailored to support youth through sports and recreation, promoting healthy decision-making and social skills within the community. Employment in this role involves direct interaction with participants, officials, and the public, emphasizing safety, order, and crisis management in a dynamic environment.
The position of Building Personnel for the Midnight League program involves operational and supervisory responsibilities to maintain a secure and welcoming facility environment. This role requires overseeing crowd control, entry operations, and safety measures while supporting game managers and assisting with event management duties. The personnel are the frontline assurance for maintaining security protocols and ensuring that all participants, including teams, officials, and spectators, have a safe and enjoyable experience. The role involves managing potentially hostile situations with calm and effective crisis intervention skills and assisting with logistical support such as setting up safety equipment and staging pre- and post-game activities. An integral part of the duties includes enforcing Covid-19 protocols, including temperature checks, mask provision, sanitizer station maintenance, participant screening, and thorough disinfecting processes. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining communication through two-way radios, contributing to emergency response efforts when needed, and facilitating a cooperative team atmosphere. This role reports to the MPS Midnight/Twilight League Recreation Supervisor of Sports. The position is part-time and includes mandatory training such as Crisis Prevention Intervention and metal detection system operation. The commitment to health and safety is underlined by a strict vaccination policy for all MPS employees as per current guidelines, ensuring a safe environment for staff and participants alike. This role is ideal for individuals dedicated to community development, safety, and public engagement with experience in supervisory or program management roles involving diverse groups in a public setting. Candidates with CPR/First Aid training are preferred, as is previous experience managing large groups independently.
