Job Description

Fleet Week New Orleans is one of the nation’s most significant military celebrations, marking a momentous occasion in May 2026 as part of Sail 250, the national commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. This pivotal event will welcome approximately 3,000 Sailors, Marines, Coast Guard members, and partner-nation service members visiting New Orleans aboard U.S. Navy and allied ships. It represents a unique opportunity for many of these service members to experience the rich culture, hospitality, and vibrant community of the Gulf South for the first time.

The USO of Louisiana and Mississippi is proud to lead several major initiatives designed to deliver an unforgettable welcome to these visiting service members. These initiatives include an expansive pier-side welcome celebration, a dedicated USO support and comfort center operating throughout the week, and a series of morale-building events that immerse the guests in an authentic Louisiana experience. The Fleet Week New Orleans & USO Event Planning & Development Team plays a critical role in conceptualizing, organizing, and executing these impactful activities.

This volunteer planning team collaborates hand-in-hand with USO leadership to coordinate a variety of high-profile events. Key initiatives led by the team include the Fleet Week Welcome Celebration, which hosts a large reception as ships arrive; the USO Fleet Week Support Center, offering a welcoming space for relaxation and social connection; and morale-boosting events such as Comedy Night for the Troops and a celebratory concert. Beyond these headline events, additional community engagement activities ensure that service members can connect deeply with New Orleans citizens throughout the week.

Members of the planning team undertake diverse responsibilities ranging from event planning and logistics coordination to hospitality outreach and vendor management. They also engage with community partners, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure the seamless execution of the week’s events while amplifying the spirit of appreciation for those who serve. This role is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in event management, marketing, corporate partnerships, tourism, hospitality, volunteer coordination, and logistics operations.

Volunteering with the USO Fleet Week Event Planning Team offers an extraordinary chance to contribute meaningfully to a nationally recognized event that honors military men and women. The team’s efforts facilitate more than just entertainment; they provide service members with cherished moments of respite, camaraderie, and heartfelt thanks. Volunteers may participate in planning activities at their convenience leading up to the event, with additional opportunities available during the week of Fleet Week from May 27 to June 1, 2026.

Joining the Fleet Week New Orleans & USO Event Planning and Development Team means being part of a dedicated community committed to celebrating and supporting the armed forces. This is a rewarding opportunity to channel your skills towards a cause that deeply impacts the lives of those who have dedicated themselves to protecting the nation. Through collective effort, volunteers help shape memorable experiences that define Fleet Week and enhance the bond between the military and civilian communities in New Orleans.
