Job Description

Good Works Hub is a dedicated community-centered initiative operating in Central Florida, focused on advancing sustainability, strengthening local food systems, promoting housing stability, and fostering circular-economy solutions. Through innovative and engaging programming—ranging from workshops and festivals to hackathons and community gatherings—the organization brings diverse groups of people together to learn, collaborate, and make meaningful, real-world impacts on their communities. Good Works Hub actively embraces the philosophy of learning by doing and is deeply committed to providing emerging professionals with hands-on experience in various aspects of nonprofit operations and community engagement.

The Volunteer Event Planner / Community Events Coordinator role at Good Works Hub offers a unique opportunity for entry-level candidates or career changers to gain substantive experience in event planning and nonprofit work. Based in Central Florida with a hybrid work model that includes some in-person requirements, this volunteer position entails a commitment of 5 to 10 hours per week with flexibility to accommodate event-driven surges. While the position is primarily volunteer-based, a stipend is provided based on event scope and availability, making it a meaningful way to earn while gaining valuable experience. Volunteers report directly to the Founder and Program Director, receiving mentoring and support to help them develop their skill set in event logistics, coordination, marketing, and community engagement.

In this role, individuals will assist with all facets of event planning and execution—from creating checklists and managing timelines to coordinating with vendors and venues. The role demands organizational skills and the ability to support logistical elements such as permits, supplies, and catering arrangements, as well as tracking budgets and expenses. Coordinating registration and participant communications, managing volunteers and partners, and supporting marketing efforts like drafting social media content and preparing event signage are key responsibilities. On the day of events, volunteers help set up, manage check-in, and troubleshoot any issues that arise, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees.

Participants in this role will benefit from practical experience in nonprofit event planning best practices, develop a portfolio of live events they have helped organize, and receive mentorship from experienced professionals. This position is ideal for students, recent graduates, or individuals looking to transition into the nonprofit or event planning sectors who are organized, dependable, and eager to contribute to meaningful community projects. Good Works Hub fosters an inclusive atmosphere, encourages learning and growth, and presents future opportunities for those interested in advancing to paid or leadership roles as the organization expands.
