Job Description

The Colon Cancer Coalition is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to saving lives by granting funds to local communities to increase education, awareness, screening, and patient support for colorectal cancer across North America. Known primarily for its impactful run/walk series, the signature Get Your Rear in Gear (GYRIG) events have become a vital part of the coalition's efforts to engage communities, raise awareness, and fund critical colorectal cancer initiatives. The coalition operates with a passionate team focused on creating meaningful change in public health through fundraising, education, and community engagement. As an organization that values empathy, inclusiveness, and collaborative impact, it fosters a supportive environment that encourages innovative approaches to making a difference in cancer prevention and care.

The Event Manager role is an integral position within the Colon Cancer Coalition's events team, reporting directly to the Director of Events & Development. This full-time position requires a dynamic individual who can successfully cultivate relationships and implement multiple events — typically managing 7-8 events per manager — across an assigned geographic area. These events are more than just fundraisers; they are essential community-building activities that empower local volunteers and supporters to unite against colorectal cancer. The Event Manager combines project management, people skills, communication, event planning, and logistical expertise to drive the success of these events at every stage. From setting goals based on historical metrics to coordinating with local vendors, volunteers, and sponsors, this role ensures smooth event execution while maintaining positive and inspiring relationships with the local community.

Core responsibilities include delivering exceptional support and customer service to local event directors, establishing effective communication rhythms, acting as a professional and credible representative at every touchpoint, and adhering to organizational processes and digital tools. The Event Manager plans and executes all details of each assigned event, including location and date selection, securing timing companies, managing permits, soliciting sponsorships, shipping materials, and conducting final evaluations. They collaborate closely with leadership, including the Director of Events & Development, President, and CFO, on budgeting and revenue targets. Additionally, they manage event-related logistics like shipment tracking and participant communication, and partner with marketing teams to boost event visibility and success.

This role is both challenging and rewarding, requiring empathy, humor, and strong interpersonal skills to build long-lasting, trustful relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. The successful candidate must be willing to travel extensively during peak event seasons in spring and fall, and be physically able to assist with event set-up and tear-down. Familiarity with event management software, nonprofit event planning, and fundraising strategies is highly valued. This position offers a flexible work schedule, blending remote and in-office options, with a comprehensive benefits package that reflects the organization's commitment to its team members. Working at the Colon Cancer Coalition means being part of a mission-driven team dedicated to making a lasting impact on communities and individuals affected by colorectal cancer.
