Job Description
The Mitchell Thorp Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial, emotional, and resource support to families whose children are battling cancer, rare diseases, and critical medical conditions. The foundation’s mission centers around delivering hope and relief to families facing these daunting challenges by hosting impactful events that raise funds and foster a strong community spirit. Known for its compassionate approach and commitment to making a tangible difference, the Mitchell Thorp Foundation engages donors, families, community partners, and supporters through meaningful experiences that inspire generosity and collaboration.
As an Events Manager at the Mitchell Thorp Foundation, you will play a crucial role in leading the planning and execution of signature and community events that are vital to advancing the organization’s mission. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, this full-time, salaried position offers a salary range of $68,000 - $72,000 annually, depending on experience. The role demands a highly organized, creative, and collaborative professional capable of managing all aspects of event planning — from concept through flawless execution and post-event evaluation.
Your primary responsibility will be overseeing a diverse portfolio of events that includes the Annual Par for a Purpose Golf Tournament, the Annual Warrior Spirit 5K & Family Festival, the Annual Gala, the Hope Basket Drive, the Holiday Toy Drive, and other mission-driven activities. This work involves developing detailed project plans, timelines, and run-of-show documents to ensure seamless event delivery. You will coordinate logistics such as venue selection, vendor management, contracts negotiation, staffing, setup, and breakdown, making certain every detail meets the foundation’s high standards for quality and engagement.
Collaboration is a key component of this role. You will work closely with executive leadership, staff, and volunteers to coordinate all planning and execution activities. Leading volunteer teams in auction item procurement, managing contractors and vendors, and working with the Administrative Coordinator to support event operations are essential to your success. Additionally, you will develop and manage event budgets, track expenses and revenue, reconcile invoices, and maintain an organized inventory of materials and supplies. Managing short- and long-term event calendars helps proactively resolve scheduling conflicts and ensures smooth operations throughout the year.
Post-event evaluation and continuous improvement efforts are central to the foundation’s commitment to excellence. You will conduct detailed post-event assessments and prepare reports identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, engagement, and outcomes, enhancing future event success.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Marketing, Project Management, Fundraising, or a related field, and bring a minimum of three years of event planning or management experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a detail-oriented and solutions-focused mindset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and experience with event software or CRM systems is a plus. Given the nature of event timing, flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed is necessary. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be willing to travel locally.
Working at the Mitchell Thorp Foundation offers more than just a job; it provides an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that directly impacts vulnerable families and children in need. The organization supports its team with health benefits, paid time off, professional development opportunities, a collaborative and mission-driven environment, flexible scheduling, and mileage reimbursement for work-related travel. The initial training period involves five days per week in the office for three months, after which work-from-home Fridays are permitted except when events require presence.
Joining the Mitchell Thorp Foundation means becoming part of a dedicated group committed to creating hope and community through impactful events and support services. Your efforts will not only advance fund-raising initiatives but also strengthen bonds within the community, providing critical relief and encouragement to families facing unimaginable challenges.
