Job Description
The Phoenix Zoo is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, and providing visitors with exceptional experiences. Situated in Phoenix, Arizona, the Zoo serves as both an educational institution and a venue for a wide variety of social, corporate, and internal events. Known for its commitment to community enrichment and environmental stewardship, the Zoo hosts numerous events throughout the year, ensuring guests enjoy a unique and memorable setting that merges natural beauty with professional event management.
The Group Events Department at the Phoenix Zoo is responsible for orchestrating private events that meet the needs of diverse clients. These events range from corporate meetings, social celebrations, internal functions, to fundraising activities. The department emphasizes a collaborative approach, liaising with caterers, vendors, park personnel, and specialized staff to guarantee seamless execution and top-quality guest service.
The role of the Event Facilitator within this dynamic department is a pivotal one. This full-time, regular, and non-exempt position offers a competitive hourly wage of $21.50, reflecting the importance and responsibility inherent in this role. The Event Facilitator is charged with overseeing the entire lifecycle of an event—from initial preparation and setup to execution and final cleanup. This includes the coordination of access for clients, vendors, and guests to the facilities and ensuring event operations adhere strictly to schedules and corporate standards.
The Event Facilitator’s duties require meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities include collaborating with sales staff to understand client requirements, managing the setup and breakdown of event furnishings and equipment, and overseeing alcohol service compliance according to the Phoenix Zoo House Rules and Arizona State Liquor Laws. Additionally, the facilitator maintains inventory controls, particularly for bar-related supplies, and addresses any operational challenges by reporting concerns promptly to the Event Operations Manager.
Successful candidates for this role must display a positive, professional, and helpful attitude, embodying the WILD spirit—friendly, helpful, positive and professional. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is essential. The job demands a physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs, work independently, and operate in diverse environments such as uneven surfaces. Experience in professional event or banquet setup, while preferred, is not mandatory, though candidates must demonstrate initiative and strong teamwork capabilities.
This position also provides opportunities to contribute to special projects such as the WILD Birthdays program and fundraising events, enriching the community experience at the Zoo. Safety and compliance are paramount; therefore, candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and successfully pass pre-employment background, DMV, and drug screenings.
Overall, the Event Facilitator role at the Phoenix Zoo offers a unique blend of customer service, event management, and operational duties in a setting that supports conservation and education. Professionals passionate about delivering exceptional events in a vibrant, mission-driven environment will find this position both challenging and rewarding.
