Job Description
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a nationally recognized cultural destination located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a premier botanical garden and sculpture park, it combines art, culture, and the natural environment to offer visitors transformative and educational experiences throughout the year. This establishment is renowned for its exceptional blend of horticulture and world-class sculpture exhibitions, making it a vibrant community hub for art lovers, nature enthusiasts, and families alike. The organization hosts diverse events, including public programs, performances, wedding rentals, and private gatherings, enriching the cultural fabric of the community and attracting visitors from across the region and beyond.
The Event Facilitator role within the Special Events & Performing Arts department is a part-time, hourly, seasonal position based in Grand Rapids, MI. This role demands flexibility, requiring the individual to work varied schedules that include nights, weekends, and holidays according to the concert and event calendar. As an integral part of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, the Event Facilitator ensures the seamless execution of events by managing the logistics and operational details essential for delivering a high-quality guest experience.
This position is perfectly suited for individuals who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and enjoy the intricacies of event coordination where attention to detail is paramount. The Event Facilitator acts as an on-site operational partner who supports the setup, execution, and breakdown of events while serving as a professional point of contact for clients, guests, and vendors. Their contributions directly shape the welcoming and organized environment that Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is celebrated for.
The role involves a wide variety of responsibilities centered around event coordination, logistical support, and direct guest interaction. It's not just about managing physical arrangements but also about ensuring communication flows smoothly among team members, clients, and external partners. The Event Facilitator plays a leadership role in prioritizing operational tasks during high-volume periods and troubleshooting any issues that arise during events to maintain a professional and guest-centric atmosphere.
In addition to event days, the facilitator is involved in administrative tasks such as maintaining accurate records, assisting with post-event evaluations, and providing feedback that helps improve future event experiences. Education requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, with some college coursework in hospitality, event management, or communications preferred. Experience in event coordination, hospitality, or guest services is advantageous.
Working conditions for this role include both indoor and outdoor event environments with exposure to varying weather conditions and noise levels. Physical demands require frequent standing, walking, and the ability to lift or carry equipment up to 20 pounds. With a commitment to outstanding service and operational excellence, employees in this role help Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park uphold its core values: welcoming, excellence, innovation, integrity, and stewardship.
By joining the team, the Event Facilitator becomes part of an engaging community that values diverse perspectives and fosters inclusivity. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to culturally significant events and make a lasting impact on the guest experience at one of the region's most beloved destinations.
