Founded in 1974, Naropa blends Eastern philosophical traditions with Western scholarship, fostering a vibrant community that values inclusivity, creativity, and social responsibility. As an educational leader, Naropa offers undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines, including arts, psychology, education, and environmental studies, emphasizing personal growth, mindfulness, and active engagement with the world.
The Office of Events at Naropa University plays a crucial role in supporting a broad range of university activities by managing event logistics and providing technical expertise for performances and special gatherings. Operating primarily from the Arapahoe campus with additional facilities like the Nalanda Events Center, the department ensures smooth execution of diverse events such as theatrical productions, music and dance performances, lectures, conferences, workshops, and community activities. This commitment to excellence enriches the cultural and intellectual life on campus and offers both students and local audiences unique experiential opportunities.
The Event Crew Technician position is designed for energetic, detail-oriented individuals enthusiastic about contributing to Naropa's dynamic event environment. Reporting to the Events Coordinator, this hourly non-exempt role involves on-site work exclusively, supporting events with flexible, on-call hours ranging from zero up to 20 per week. Compensation for this role ranges from $18 to $23 per hour, depending upon prior experience. Employment is tailored around event schedules and staff availability, making it an ideal opportunity for those seeking part-time engagement with a vibrant university community.
Event Crew Technicians are integral members of the technical team, responsible for various aspects of event preparation, execution, and breakdown. Duties encompass stage and room setup, lighting and sound operation, audio-visual equipment management, and customer support such as box office sales and house management. This role demands proficiency in handling technical equipment including rigging, lighting instruments, dimmers, and sound boards, alongside strong teamwork and communication skills to facilitate seamless event experiences. Additionally, technicians assist with media projection, conduct sound checks, manage cue sheets, and support hybrid classroom technology as needed.
The position requires physical capability to perform lifting and scaffolding tasks safely, operate lifts, and work at heights following strict safety guidelines. Flexibility in availability is essential, as events often occur during evenings and weekends. Candidates must embrace Naropa's values of inclusivity and professionalism, demonstrated through a positive attitude, punctuality, reliability, and willingness to engage in ongoing professional development. This role is perfect for individuals with a background in technical theatre or live event support who enjoy a collaborative work atmosphere and are committed to delivering high-quality service.
Naropa University values its employees by offering a comprehensive benefits package to full-time staff, including health insurance, retirement plans with employer matching, tuition remission programs, and paid leave. Even part-time and on-call staff have access to select benefits, fostering a supportive work environment that encourages personal and professional growth. As an equal opportunity employer, Naropa is dedicated to diversity and equity, affirming compliance with federal civil rights laws and providing a safe, respectful workplace for all team members.
