Job Description

Cruise Norfolk operates an expansive 80,000 square foot terminal that serves as a vibrant gateway welcoming visitors to The Mermaid City, Norfolk, Virginia. This terminal is not just a point of departure and arrival; it represents a hub of excitement and memorable travel experiences for cruise passengers. Cruise Norfolk prides itself on delivering exceptional service and maintaining a high standard of operations that position the terminal as a premier cruise destination on the East Coast. The facility hosts numerous cruise calls annually, facilitating seamless operations and guest experiences through meticulous planning and coordination.

The role of Event Coordinator at Cruise Norfolk is pivotal in ensuring the smooth execution of daily terminal operations and enhancing the overall visitor experience. This full-time position involves managing complex logistics, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and overseeing event and operational details with precision. The salary range for this role is between $56,900 and $65,294, reflecting the level of responsibility and expertise required. The Event Coordinator acts as a vital liaison among terminal management, service providers, city personnel, cruise teams, and the public. This role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, an ability to multitask efficiently, and a commitment to upholding security and safety standards within the terminal environment.

Key responsibilities include overseeing daily terminal functions and ensuring all cruise turnover days operate smoothly by addressing real-time issues. The coordinator is also responsible for executing Facility Security Officer duties, maintaining comprehensive Port Security documentation, and ensuring adherence to maritime security regulations through regular audits. Administrative tasks such as coordinating meetings, generating reports, and responding to public inquiries are also essential parts of the role.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage on-site activations, and coordinate various aspects of event logistics, including floor layouts, equipment needs, and audiovisual specifications. Supervisory skills are also crucial as this role involves managing personnel and volunteers during high-traffic cruise events. Physical endurance is required for tasks involving extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, and working in varying temperatures. This demanding yet rewarding role requires a broad professional knowledge base typically gained through a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, alongside at least two years of event or facilities management expertise.

Working at Cruise Norfolk offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dedicated team that strives to deliver excellence in hospitality and operational execution within a dynamic and fast-paced maritime environment. The role is based at One Waterside Drive in Norfolk, VA, with working hours typically scheduled Friday through Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but varying on cruise turnover days to meet operational needs. The position requires eligibility for a TWIC card and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with CPR and first aid certifications considered advantageous. By joining Cruise Norfolk as an Event Coordinator, candidates will contribute directly to the city’s attractiveness as a cruise destination while developing valuable skills in event coordination, security management, and customer service.
