Job Description

The University of South Carolina (UofSC) is a prestigious public university system renowned for its comprehensive educational offerings and commitment to enriching the lives of South Carolinians through academic excellence and community engagement. With eight diverse institutions and 20 locations spread throughout the state—from the Upstate to the Lowcountry—UofSC serves more than 50,000 students. Its campuses include notable research and teaching hubs such as the flagship research campus in Columbia and the four-year universities located in Aiken, Upstate, and Beaufort. Additionally, the university offers Palmetto College campuses in Salkehatchie, Union, Lancaster, and Sumter, providing flexible learning options such as in-person, blended, and online courses that allow students to earn associate or bachelor’s degrees. The University of South Carolina system places a strong emphasis on service, aiming to build healthier, better-educated communities within South Carolina and beyond. Driven by a mission to innovate and educate, UofSC continually fosters an environment of inclusivity and excellence, ensuring that every member of its community thrives and contributes meaningfully to society.

The University of South Carolina is currently seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to join its dynamic team as an Event Coordinator within the Department of DAF Special Events. This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the university’s most vibrant and essential operational areas—event management. The Event Coordinator will have a pivotal role in planning, managing, and executing events that engage the campus community and key stakeholders including the Office of the President, Board of Trustees, Division of Development, and Communications Department. This role is crucial in delivering impactful events that not only celebrate but also support the university’s mission and strategic goals. The coordinator will work under limited supervision, which demands a self-motivated and highly resourceful individual who can balance multiple responsibilities efficiently.

The role extends beyond traditional event planning duties by involving coordination with various university departments and colleges to support special programming needs. The ideal candidate should be passionate about creating compelling experiences that inspire, connect, and celebrate the diverse members of the university community. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, event management software, Omni CMS, and Mailchimp—or a willingness to learn these tools—is important. The role also entails familiarity with internal university systems such as Blackbaud and PeopleSoft, or the ability to learn these platforms quickly. This position offers a unique chance to influence and enhance the university’s cultural and social landscape by producing events that embody excellence in higher education and community engagement. Join a team characterized by creativity, energy, and commitment to excellence by applying today and becoming a vital part of the University of South Carolina’s mission to transform lives and build stronger communities.
