Job Description

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is a leading public agency dedicated to animal welfare and community engagement in the state of Arizona. As one of the nation's largest open-admission animal shelters, the organization focuses on strengthening the human-animal bond by providing compassionate care, facilitating pet adoptions, and promoting responsible pet ownership. The agency operates multiple centers serving the West and East Valleys of Maricopa County, working closely with the community to ensure the well-being of homeless and stray animals. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control prides itself on its commitment to excellence in animal services, innovative community outreach, and educational programs that foster a safe and healthy environment for both pets and people.

The Event Coordinator role at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is a dynamic and impactful position designed for individuals passionate about advocacy, community involvement, and animal welfare. This unclassified position offers an anticipated hiring pay range of $55,000 to $75,000 annually, with a full pay range extending up to $95,000 based on experience and internal equity. The salary reflects the level of expertise and commitment expected, although the position is not eligible for overtime compensation. The role is fully on-site and customer-facing, requiring the employee to be present in the office or out in the community during all working hours.

The Event Coordinator's primary mission is to increase pet adoptions and enhance community engagement by planning, organizing, and executing off-site adoption events as well as shelter-based special events. This involves comprehensive event logistics management including site selection, setup, volunteer coordination, and post-event evaluations to ensure each event runs smoothly and meets its intended goals. Beyond adoption events, the role supports broader community wellness initiatives by coordinating licensing events, free spay/neuter clinics, and vaccine clinics. A critical part of this responsibility is identifying ideal locations for these events and tracking outcomes to evaluate program effectiveness and impact.

The position demands a proactive, detail-oriented individual capable of juggling multiple responsibilities and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders, including the general public, volunteers, community partners, and internal teams. The Event Coordinator must ensure humane animal handling, maintain accurate program records and statistical reports, and develop program materials for data collection and community information dissemination. The role also requires the employee to drive large vehicles up to 29 and 31 feet, making a valid Arizona driver's license with this capability a necessity. This role offers a unique opportunity for motivated candidates to directly contribute to animal welfare in underserved communities while fostering valuable partnerships and raising awareness of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control's mission and vision.
