Job Description
Michaels is a leading arts and crafts retail company headquartered in Irving, Texas, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Since its founding in 1973, Michaels has been the go-to destination for creative enthusiasts looking for crafting supplies, framing services, and event hosting to fuel joy and creativity. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels prioritizes fostering an inclusive and positive work environment focused on creativity, customer satisfaction, and team member wellbeing. They offer a diverse range of opportunities for both full-time and part-time team members, supported by comprehensive benefits and a commitment to equal employment opportunities and accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
This role is based at the Michaels store in Richmond Short Pump, VA, and involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various in-store events such as children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and special events. The role combines strong event coordination and customer service responsibilities, ensuring guests have engaging, stress-free, and memorable experiences at the store. The event coordinator will interact with clients from diverse age groups, guiding them through creative activities and managing the logistical and administrative needs related to event planning and execution. In addition to event-specific duties, the role includes general retail responsibilities such as assisting customers with shopping needs, operating the checkout process quickly and kindly, handling merchandise tasks, supporting inventory management programs, and maintaining store appearance and safety standards. This position is integral to maintaining Michaels’ brand promises by promoting a welcoming and creative shopping environment and ensuring client satisfaction with events.
The ideal candidate is energetic, enthusiastic, and possesses excellent interpersonal skills. Experience in customer service and retail, particularly with children or event hosting, is essential. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills will aid in delivering seamless event experiences and ensuring smooth store operations. The candidate should be comfortable interacting with customers across all age groups and capable of multitasking in a dynamic retail setting. Physical stamina is necessary, as the job requires standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and the use of ladders for stocking high shelves. This role offers a unique opportunity for creative and outgoing individuals who enjoy working with people and providing memorable customer experiences in a vibrant retail environment.
Michaels supports its team members through a variety of benefits including health insurance options (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. The company is committed to supporting diversity and inclusion and strives to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals. Those interested in joining Michaels in this event coordinator and customer service role will contribute to a welcoming, creative, and well-managed in-store experience that reflects Michaels’ mission of inspiring creativity and celebration for all its customers.
