Job Description
The position of Event Captain at this renowned Zoo offers an engaging part-time opportunity within the Guest Services Department. This Zoo is dedicated to fostering a deep appreciation for wildlife and environmental conservation, aiming to inspire visitors to actively participate in safeguarding our natural world. As a pivotal member of the team, the Event Captain plays an essential role in upholding the Zoo's mission by ensuring seamless event operations that maintain the highest standards of guest experience and safety. The establishment is known for its vibrant event calendar that hosts a range of activities especially on weekends, evenings, holidays, and school breaks, providing dynamic work schedules and the chance to work in both indoor and outdoor settings, often under varying weather conditions.
The Event Captain is responsible for coordinating and managing events, working closely with onsite vendors, catering teams, and other Zoo departments to ensure all logistics and service expectations are met accurately and efficiently. With a pay scale between $18 to $20 per hour, this role demands some prior experience, especially in cash handling and bartending, which are preferred skills due to the nature of responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of food and beverage preparation and presentation, along with the ability to lead staff during events to ensure all aspects operate according to the Banquet Event Order (BEO). Communication skills are paramount as the Event Captain interacts directly with guests, event hosts, and internal teams, ensuring any needs or challenges are promptly and satisfactorily addressed.
This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and excellent problem-solving skills, as event dynamics can change unexpectedly. The Event Captain is expected to manage bar setups, supplies, and utilize various operational systems such as AV equipment, POS systems, event sales platforms, and telephone systems efficiently. Candidates must also be familiar with Standard Operating Procedures for event spaces and Zoo operations, guaranteeing consistent fulfillment of safety, cleanliness, and operational standards.
Working at this Zoo means joining a team passionate about wildlife education and conservation efforts, contributing not only to successful events but also actively participating in the overarching mission to protect and celebrate nature. This role is perfect for individuals motivated by a fast-paced, guest-focused, and community-oriented environment, with opportunities to grow skills in event management, hospitality, and customer service while supporting a meaningful cause.
