Job Description
The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Phoenix, Arizona, is part of a global organization dedicated to serving communities through spiritual and social programs. Established as an evangelical movement that is a piece of the universal Christian Church, The Salvation Army focuses on preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and addressing human needs without discrimination. The Kroc Center serves as a hub for community engagement, offering various programs, events, and services to foster positive social interactions and support for families, youth, and individuals in need. The facility is known for its welcoming environment and commitment to uplifting community members through recreational activities, educational programs, and outreach initiatives.
The opportunity at the Kroc Center is for an Event Attendant, a vital role serving as the primary customer service ambassador between the Kroc Center and its guests. This non-exempt, on-call position demands a highly flexible and cooperative individual to oversee the hosting and facilitation of various rentals, birthday parties, and special events. The Event Attendant ensures that all attendees enjoy a positive, engaging, and fun experience throughout their visit. Key responsibilities include supervising events to maintain safety and order, managing setup and cleanup duties in collaboration with maintenance staff, and consistently upholding The Salvation Army's mission and policies. The role also requires interaction and communication with guests, community members, and Kroc Center personnel to ensure smooth event operations and excellent guest relations.
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to work with parents, youth, and community groups. They should be capable of handling changing environments with a positive, professional attitude and demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. Being able to work independently without direct supervision and making sound decisions aligned with organizational policies is essential. The Event Attendant must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Effective verbal and written communication skills are critical, and while fluency in English is required, Spanish language skills are considered a plus.
This role also demands a dedication to safety, as event attendants are responsible for monitoring event spaces, reporting incidents, and quickly addressing any unsafe conditions. Additionally, the Event Attendant helps create an energetic and welcoming atmosphere—especially during birthday parties—by managing guest check-ins, assisting with refreshments, supervising activities, and maintaining an organized, clean environment. Completing the Protecting the Mission training is mandatory to ensure adherence to The Salvation Army's standards and ethical guidelines.
Physically, the position requires the ability to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach continuously, as well as lifting and moving objects ranging from 20 to 75 pounds. The role is integral to the guest experience and the community connection with the Kroc Center, making it perfect for an individual who thrives in team settings and finds fulfillment in service-oriented work. Those interested in joining a mission-driven organization that impacts lives and fosters community spirit will find this position both rewarding and challenging.
