Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a premier retail destination specializing in arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall décor, and seasonal merchandise. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown to operate over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. As a leader in the creative retail industry, Michaels fosters a vibrant community for artists, hobbyists, and families seeking to explore and celebrate creativity through a wide variety of DIY projects and events. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing its commitment to providing comprehensive creative solutions. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration by offering an extensive range of products, inspiring events, and expert guidance that cater to customers of all ages and skill levels.

This role is based at the Michaels store located in Harbison, SC, and focuses on event coordination, customer service, and operational support, designed to ensure an engaging, seamless shopping and event experience. The position primarily involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events within the store, such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The Event Coordinator is responsible for creating a fun, stress-free environment that encourages creativity and enjoyment for guests ranging from young children to seniors. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to interact with clients and team members, ensuring all events meet Michaels’ high standards of quality and satisfaction.

In addition to event management, this role requires providing exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, educating them on store programs like Rewards and Private Label Credit Cards, and delivering a fast and friendly checkout experience. Operational duties include unloading trucks, managing merchandise displays, maintaining store recovery standards, and supporting shrink and safety initiatives. The role demands flexibility to adjust event plans based on client feedback, maintain cleanliness and safety before and after events, and participate in store upkeep activities such as stocking and planogram maintenance.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess an energetic and enthusiastic personality, excellent people skills, and previous experience working with children and children’s events. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities are essential to succeed in the role. Retail or customer service experience is also important given the customer-facing nature of the position. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods, move throughout the store, and handle tasks involving lifting and reaching. The work environment is primarily a public retail setting with climate-controlled areas, some exposure to outdoor activities, and occasional use of ladders or specialized equipment.

Michaels offers a comprehensive benefits package to support the well-being of its team members and their families. Eligible employees may access a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, an Employee Assistance Program, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits, tuition assistance, adoption assistance, and various voluntary insurance options. Team members also enjoy everyday perks such as employee discounts and access to partner discount programs. Michaels is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, ensuring reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
