The Emergency Department Technician (ER Technician) role at White Plains Hospital is a vital position within the emergency care team, requiring strong collaboration with Registered Nurses, Providers, and Mid-level Providers. This full-time night shift position involves working 45 hours per pay period from 7 PM to 7 AM, offering a competitive pay rate ranging from $25.00 to $28.80 per hour. The ER Technician is responsible for performing a variety of direct and indirect patient care tasks, assisting in the management of behavioral health patients, and participating in the execution of infection control protocols, including those for highly infectious diseases like the Ebola Virus. This role demands exceptional clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced emergency environment.

The primary duties include obtaining vital signs, monitoring patient intake and output, assisting with activities of daily living, and supporting various medical procedures such as phlebotomy, EKG administration, and tracheostomy care. The ER Technician also plays a crucial role in maintaining departmental quality metrics such as turnaround time for blood collection, patient length of stay, and overall throughput. The position requires adherence to hospital performance standards, patient rights, and regulatory compliance while actively participating in continuous performance improvement initiatives. Additionally, the ER Technician must maintain communication with the healthcare team regarding patient status and safety concerns and ensure the readiness of medical supplies and equipment.

This role is ideal for candidates who have at least one year of patient care experience, are proficient in phlebotomy, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to remain composed in stressful situations and act professionally as a role model within the team. BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required within six months of hire. Furthermore, effective from June 25, 2021, ER Technicians must complete de-escalation training within one year of hire or transfer to enhance their ability to manage behavioral health patients safely and compassionately.
