The Environmental Services Aide at St. Luke's plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the hospital's patient rooms, auxiliary spaces, and other specified areas. This role requires adherence to strict cleaning guidelines and aseptic procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The aide is responsible for using appropriate cleaning supplies and chemicals following departmental standards, preparing patient rooms efficiently, and maintaining various surfaces and fixtures to the highest standards of hygiene. Physical stamina and attention to detail are vital for success in this position, as the aide will regularly scrub, mop, buff floors, dust, polish furniture, and clean glass, woodwork, and washrooms. The role also demands proper waste disposal and compliance with safety requirements, contributing significantly to the hospital's infection control efforts. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency preferred
  • Three to six months of housekeeping experience in hospital or institutional setting preferred
  • Ability to follow departmental cleaning procedures and safety protocols
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and reaching
  • Attendance at 85% of monthly staff meetings
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions consistently

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Physical ability to perform housekeeping duties including lifting and standing for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Use appropriate cleaning supplies and chemicals according to departmental procedures
  • Clean and prepare patient rooms, beds, stretchers, and other assigned areas in a timely and efficient manner
  • Scrub, mop, and buff floors
  • Dust and polish furniture
  • Clean glass interior windows, woodwork, toilets, washrooms, and fixtures
  • Clean sinks in kitchen and maintain tables and dining areas
  • Remove trash from areas to designated trash stations
  • Use safe and proper cleaning procedures
  • Follow all applicable schedules, sanitation, and safety requirements
  • Attend 85% of Environmental Services Department monthly staff meetings annually
  • Maintain assigned area in a neat, clean, and sanitary condition
