The role of a housekeeping team member at GBMC HealthCare is crucial in maintaining the facility’s sanitation and orderliness, directly impacting patient experience and organizational efficiency. Under direct supervision, the incumbent is responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned areas within the hospital in accordance with departmental and regulatory agency policies and standards. This includes a variety of cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing, polishing, and performing routine room discharges. The position involves preparing cleaning solutions safely, identifying and reporting maintenance needs, and ensuring the proper storage of equipment. The housekeeping staff interact courteously with patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel, contributing to a positive and reassuring environment.
This position requires the ability to work efficiently under time constraints and collaboratively within a team. Additionally, knowledge of patient and workplace safety protocols is essential, particularly concerning the handling of patient areas and equipment. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior housekeeping or cleaning experience preferred
- ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- physical capability to perform cleaning duties including lifting and bending
- effective communication skills
- ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- availability to work assigned shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Duties
- Assembles necessary cleaning supplies and equipment
- loads utility cart and transports same to work areas after receiving instructions as to area and specific work assignment
- cleans assigned areas by performing a variety of housekeeping duties
- inspects area upon completion of cleaning to ensure appropriate levels of cleanliness have been achieved
- prepares cleaning solutions according to written instructions on label
- performs routine discharge room cleaning per established guidelines and protocols in established time frames including removing soiled linen from discharge rooms and remakes beds with fresh linen in prescribed manner
- notifies team leader of needed maintenance repairs in assigned area
- cleans and stores equipment regularly in porter closet or assigned storage area
- logs on and off Interserv per GBMC policy
- logs tasks on Interserv per policy
