BAE Systems is currently hiring an Environmental Manager to support the San Diego Maritime Solutions facility. This full-time position offers a salary range of $118,747 to $201,870, depending on qualifications, experience, and local market considerations. The Environmental Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental protection programs and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations in a cost-effective manner.
In this role, the Environmental Manager will oversee Best Management Practices, participate in emergency planning, lead environmental incident investigations, integrate environmental programs into production activities, and provide environmental training to employees. Responsibilities emphasize hazardous material and waste management, air quality, stormwater and industrial wastewater management, SPCC and Over Water Transfers compliance, environmental management system maintenance, facility inspections, hazardous waste management, and sample collection for laboratory analysis.
The Environmental Manager will also be tasked with collecting and analyzing environmental data, maintaining records for regulatory reporting, and submitting reports related to Title V Air Permit, NPDES Permit, Stormwater, Hazardous Waste Biennial Reports, TRI reports, and Tier II compliance, among others. The manager will regularly interact with trades and subcontractors to ensure environmental compliance and conduct training sessions for personnel.
Specific duties include managing all aspects of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System at the site, establishing a robust system for environmental program management, ensuring environmental involvement in SHEQ activities, implementing an Environmental Risk Assessment program, managing the environmental compliance calendar, and overseeing the site’s Environmental Protection subcommittee. The role also involves meeting established KPIs, managing environmental initiatives and projects, conducting workplace environmental inspections, providing direction and training to team members and subcontractors, representing BAE Systems during environmental audits, developing written compliance programs, and advising senior leadership on emerging compliance issues and solutions.
This position requires an individual who can lead and nurture a team effectively, communicate clearly at all levels, and maintain expert knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The role demands a hands-on approach with the ability to board ships and inspect various spaces, including working at heights where necessary. The Environmental Manager will utilize industry-specific software and databases to perform their duties efficiently. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental, health, safety field or related science-based discipline
- eight years of related experience or overall equivalent experience
- experience in program development and implementation
- knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems and auditing
- management experience
- effective communication skills
- training experience
- computer proficiency with industry-specific software and databases
- ability to board all ships and enter all spaces regardless of size
- ability to walk up and down stairs and work at heights using PFAS

Job Qualifications
