Job Description
Performance Food Group (PFG) Customized Distribution is a leading foodservice distributor dedicated to meeting the specialized needs of some of America’s most recognized national chain restaurants. These include top brands such as Cracker Barrel, TGI Friday’s, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, and Ruby Tuesday. PFG Customized Distribution excels at providing tailored attention and a centralized contact for product lines, menu changes, and account coordination, serving customers across the United States and in more than 40 countries worldwide. The company is committed to delivering high-quality products and exceptional service to ensure its partners’ success and growth in a competitive market.
The position available is an entry-level Driver Trainee role focused on training individuals to operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate delivery routes. This role requires a valid CDL A permit and is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to start a career in professional truck driving with no prior experience necessary. The driver trainee will actively participate in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, gaining hands-on experience by riding with and assisting experienced driver trainers to safely complete delivery routes. The routes may include local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR) trips, shuttle runs, and overnight assignments.
Key responsibilities revolve around learning and executing a variety of critical duties to support the company's food distribution operations. The trainee is responsible for completing detailed pre- and post-trip safety inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring tractor-trailers and trailers meet safety standards. Accurate documentation and freight management are essential, including performing product counts, checking customer invoices, completing necessary paperwork, securing freight, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of trailers and equipment.
This role demands adherence to strict safety standards, fostering a safety-first culture within the organization. Trainees must follow DOT rules and company policies rigorously, report any hazards or vehicle maintenance needs promptly, and maintain a clean motor vehicle record. They will also engage in customer service by verifying deliveries, obtaining signatures, and handling payments when required with professionalism and courtesy.
Working with PFG Customized Distribution offers competitive pay starting at $20 per hour for this trainee role. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, from 6am to 3pm, with the requirement for flexibility as needed. The company supports employee growth by providing comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase opportunities, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and a safe, inclusive workplace culture that emphasizes rewards, recognition, and respect.
Overall, this entry-level trucking career path is an excellent stepping stone for individuals committed to building a long-term career in logistics and transportation. PFG Customized Distribution values team players who demonstrate responsibility, attention to detail, and a dedication to safety and customer satisfaction. The environment is supportive of learning and advancement, making it a strong choice for those seeking a stable and rewarding profession in the food distribution industry.
