Job Description
Strategies to Empower People is a reputable and established company based in the Greater Sacramento area. Founded in 1994, we have evolved to become the largest provider of services for adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in the region. As a 100 percent employee-owned organization, we pride ourselves on fostering a workplace culture that values independence, creativity, and the success of the individuals we support. Our mission centers on the belief that every moment holds potential and that every person deserves the opportunity to live as independently as possible within their homes and communities. We provide personalized care where no two services or clients are alike, which requires our team members to be adaptive, empathetic, and innovative in their approach to support.
We are currently seeking to hire full-time and part-time Direct Support Staff to join our dynamic team. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals looking for rewarding work that offers both personal fulfillment and the chance to make a positive impact on someone’s life. As a Direct Support Staff member, you will provide one-on-one, in-home, and community-based support to adults with developmental disabilities. Our clients live in their own homes and are actively engaged in community activities rather than residing in group homes or locked facilities. Your role will involve providing direction and hands-on assistance with a range of daily living needs, such as eating, bathing, toileting, and cleaning, while ensuring that the clients remain engaged and participatory in these activities. This position is not about simply doing tasks for someone but about empowering individuals to be involved and maintain as much independence as possible.
The position’s work schedule is designed to offer stability and ease of planning around your personal life. Assigned schedules are specific, enabling staff members to know their hours in advance. We provide care around the clock to meet the needs of the people we serve, which means we offer a variety of shift options for both full-time and part-time employment. Pay rates are competitive, with awake hours starting at $17.75 per hour and asleep nocturnal hours at $16.90 per hour. Additionally, for those providing In-Home Support Services (IHSS) in counties such as Sacramento, Yuba, Sutter, or Placer, there are distinct pay rates that reflect the county regulations, ranging from $17.90 to $19.15 per hour.
The Direct Support Staff role often involves supporting clients in their own communities, participating in outings and activities such as visiting a comedy club, taking trips to local markets, or exploring various neighborhoods. This community engagement is essential to our method of care, providing enrichment and meaningful experiences that contribute to the overall well-being and independence of the individuals we support. Depending on the specific assignment, some roles may require a valid California Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and access to a clean and reliable vehicle to facilitate transportation. However, driving is not required for every position and is considered during placement based on your qualifications and availability.
We provide comprehensive training to all new hires, ensuring you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed, regardless of prior experience in caregiving or direct support work. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of adults with developmental disabilities and want to join a supportive and employee-centered company. Our extensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan with matching contributions, paid training and orientation, mileage reimbursement, paid time off, sick leave accrual, parental leave, and an employee assistance program. Join us at Strategies to Empower People, where your work truly matters, and every day brings an opportunity to empower and uplift those in need.
