Job Description

PFG Customized Distribution is a leading food distribution company that specializes in meeting the unique needs of some of America’s most recognized national chain restaurants including Cracker Barrel, TGI Friday’s, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, and Ruby Tuesday. With a commitment to providing customized attention, the company acts as a centralized contact for product lines, menu changes, and account coordination. Operating across the United States and in more than 40 countries, PFG Customized Distribution ensures that its customers receive reliable and quality service tailored to their specific requirements. As a subsidiary of Performance Food Group, the company upholds strong values of inclusivity and equal employment opportunity, providing a safe and respectful working environment for all employees.

This specific role is an entry-level driver training position within PFG Customized Distribution. The driver trainee is responsible for learning to drive a tractor trailer or straight truck and gaining experience in intrastate and interstate transportation. This includes driving on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver various food and related products to customers. The position requires the driving routes to be completed safely and in compliance with all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

The driver trainee is expected to participate fully in training programs, including the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, ensuring all training documentation is completed accurately. Under the supervision and guidance of a driver trainer, the trainee rides along to assist with deliveries and learns to manage the vehicle efficiently while following all safety protocols. Key responsibilities also include performing detailed safety checks on the tractor, truck, and trailer before and after trips, inspecting freight to ensure it is properly loaded and secured, and completing all associated paperwork.

This role demands a professional approach in communicating and interacting with customers, vendors, and colleagues while executing delivery duties. The trainee is also involved in unloading products, verifying deliveries with customers, collecting payments when required, and managing customer returns in accordance with company policies. In addition to driving responsibilities, the role includes general housekeeping tasks such as maintaining cleanliness in the tractor and loading dock areas, securing equipment at shift end, and reporting any safety hazards or maintenance issues.

PFG Customized Distribution offers competitive pay and benefits, including a welcome bonus of $6,000 (terms apply), a minimum weekly guaranteed pay of $1,350, and an average annual pay ranging from $70,000 to $80,000. The typical schedule involves working Sunday to Saturday, with a minimum of 4 days per week, and dispatch times between 7 pm and 3 am. The company also promotes a safe and inclusive workplace culture that rewards, recognizes, and respects every team member.

Employees benefit from comprehensive health and wellness programs effective from day one, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth. By joining PFG Customized Distribution as a driver trainee, individuals begin a rewarding career path supporting America’s food distribution system with essential services that make a difference in the food industry.
