Job Description
Singing River Health System is a respected healthcare provider dedicated to offering exceptional medical services and compassionate care to its community. Known for a patient-centered approach, the organization emphasizes a culture deeply rooted in caring, teamwork, and a commitment to improving health outcomes. Based in the Gulfport area, Singing River Health System includes facilities such as Singing River Gulfport Hospital, and it prides itself on fostering an environment where employee well-being and professional growth are prioritized alongside top-tier patient care. As a community-focused health system, the organization actively engages in saving lives, supporting team members behind the scenes, and serving the community with energy and heart every day.
The role of Environmental Services Aide is integral within the health system, directly impacting the quality of care patients receive through maintaining cleanliness, safety, and infection control standards throughout the hospital facilities. This is a swing shift position, working from 4:00pm to 12:30am at Singing River Gulfport Hospital. The Environmental Services Aide works under the supervision of the Environmental Services Director and is responsible for performing various general cleaning and linen duties. These tasks are vital in ensuring patient rooms, offices, hallways, and other areas remain hygienic and organized, thereby contributing to the overall patient experience and safety.
In addition to routine cleaning responsibilities, the Environmental Services Aide may be assigned duties related to the laundry and linen division. These include restocking linen carts, assembling linen packs for critical departments such as Surgical Services, Outpatient Surgery, Emergency Department, Labor and Delivery, and Radiology. The aide is responsible for ensuring linen deliveries are accurate and that the linen rooms and other designated storage areas are adequately stocked. Gathering linens from various points within the facility is also part of the duties to maintain smooth operational flow.
This role demands a high level of physical stamina, as aides must stand for extended periods, walk extensively, and be able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds regularly. Environmental Services Aides must also adhere to safety protocols due to potential exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous waste, and chemicals. Strong communication skills are essential, as the position requires interaction with team members and the ability to understand and convey detailed information effectively. Proficiency with computers and office technology such as MS Outlook is also important for documentation and communication purposes.
While the position requires at least six months of housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting, high school graduation or equivalent education is preferred but not mandatory. The role does not have any licensing or certification requirements, but it demands emotional stability, mental acuity, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Customer service skills and professional etiquette are paramount, reflecting the health system's commitment to a supportive and respectful workplace.
Singing River Health System offers an opportunity to be part of a team that prioritizes purpose, teamwork, and meaningful contributions to community health. This role is perfect for individuals seeking a stable and rewarding career in a respected healthcare environment where their work directly supports patient well-being and organizational excellence. Candidates motivated by helping others and working collaboratively will find this position fulfilling and impactful.
