Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • food safety manager certification from a Utah Department of Health approved entity
  • six months of job-related experience
  • physical ability to stand for long periods
  • ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
  • punctual, reliable, and predictable regular attendance
  • ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold and humidity
  • willingness to work at different Food Service locations
  • must possess knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • food safety manager certification from a Utah Department of Health approved entity
  • six months of job-related experience
  • previous supervisory experience preferred
  • knowledge and skills in management and maintenance of an elementary school kitchen
  • positive public relations skills
  • basic reading, writing and math skills
  • ability to complete preorders, production records, warehouse orders and run point-of-service
  • ability to understand nutrient regulations associated with each program
  • ability to organize and supervise kitchen staff and create schedules
  • must understand and follow federal lunch program guidelines

Job Duties

  • Supervises and coordinates the preparation of approved menus and recipes and serving meals according to established policies and/or procedures
  • directs, assigns, and schedules staff
  • conducts training sessions for new employees
  • tracks hours worked
  • provides evaluation input and addresses performance issues
  • plans and coordinates daily work for efficient use of labor
  • trains and assists employees in the proper handling of foods and use and care of equipment
  • ensures equipment, storage, food preparation and service areas are maintained in sanitary condition
  • observes and enforces proper food safety and sanitation
  • implements school meal menus as created by the central kitchen
  • estimates and orders food, condiments, and supplies to meet meal projections and minimize waste
  • receives and verifies quantity, quality, and specification of orders
  • ensures proper storage using temperature requirements
  • ensures quality and portion control of food served
  • supervises and coordinates inventories
  • supervises and participates in food preparation and serving
  • supervises lunch clerk tasks
  • ensures proper leftover use and documentation
  • determines when equipment needs repairs and coordinates maintenance
  • checks equipment operating temperatures and sanitation
  • maintains special diet plan paperwork
  • communicates with students, staff, and parents
  • supervises opening and closing of Food Services areas
  • willing to work at different Food Service locations
  • conforms to safety standards
  • promotes school Food Service programs
  • participates in department meetings, trainings, and maintains permits and certifications
  • establishes and monitors compliance with food safety rules
