The Maintenance Electrician role at Novolex's Turlock, CA facility is essential to the continuous operation and upkeep of their manufacturing plant, which runs almost around the clock. The position offers an attractive starting pay of $39.54 per hour, paid bi-weekly, with a standard work schedule from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday. This role requires individuals skilled in electrical and mechanical maintenance of industrial machinery. A successful candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical code, schematics, and industrial specifications, and must be proficient in the use of common electrician tools.

In this role, the Maintenance Electrician will troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and computer-controlled equipment vital to manufacturing operations. Key responsibilities include interpreting electrical manuals and blueprints, performing major repairs on control systems up to 480V, and managing installations and maintenance of various electrical and mechanical components such as motors, pumps, conveyors, and fans. Safety is paramount, with obligations requiring adherence to lock-out/tag-out procedures and other established safety guidelines. This position demands someone who can independently handle electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks, contribute to projects and process improvements, communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, and support complex automated technologies including PLCs and VFDs.

Job Requirements

  • Must pass an electrical aptitude test
  • must be Arc Flash certified or have the ability to become Arc Flash certified
  • must possess excellent troubleshooting skills
  • PLC troubleshooting experience and work with tension controllers are a plus
  • VFD troubleshooting and replacement
  • computer usage and typing skills are essential
  • excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years electrical maintenance experience with strong electrical/mechanical knowledge of industrial systems and automated technologies
  • 2 year electrical degree or similar education preferred but not required
  • ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • basic computer skills required
  • trained in lock out/tag out procedures

Job Duties

  • Work with assigned production and maintenance employees to complete troubleshooting or repairs based on maintenance work orders and inventory
  • may work with materials and production to complete assigned projects and improvements
  • troubleshoot electrical, computer, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment/systems commonly used in industrial manufacturing applications
  • understand and follow electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications using hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment
  • disassemble, repair/replace parts and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans
  • clean, lubricate and adjust functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary
  • perform major electrical repairs including 24VDC, and 120VAC control systems, 3-phase systems up to 480V, PLCs, VFDs
  • work with AC and DC drives, instrumentation, and hydraulic/pneumatic controls
  • maintain industrial temperature control systems, including thermocouples, temperature controllers, solid state relays, and heating elements
  • new installations of equipment, replace and test electrical circuits
  • isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using test instruments
  • replace faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems
  • remove and replace electrical transformers and lighting fixtures as needed
  • perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out
  • communicate problems encountered throughout the shift to supervisors or management
  • operate any equipment needed to perform job
  • cover both mechanical and electrical equipment without support on off shifts
  • operate knowledge of all production and service equipment
