Their Rancho Dominguez facility is a state-of-the-art 120,000 square foot headquarters dedicated to processing and distributing premium seafood products. This establishment takes pride in maintaining a culture of excellence and environmental stewardship, reflecting its leadership in the seafood distribution arena.
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist position at Santa Monica Seafood is a pivotal role within the company’s Safety, Security & Loss Prevention Department. This full-time, exempt, on-site position based in Rancho Dominguez, California, offers an annual salary ranging between $70,000 and $90,000 depending on experience. Reporting directly to the Corporate Manager of Safety, Security & Loss Prevention, the EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s EHS programs.
This role requires a strong focus on OSHA and environmental compliance. The EHS Specialist will be involved in regulatory inspections, audits, hazard identification, incident investigations, training, recordkeeping, corrective actions, and environmental compliance activities. Working closely with management and employees, the incumbent will promote a safe and compliant workplace culture, ensuring that safety and environmental responsibility are prioritized at all times. The position requires collaboration with various departments, including operations, maintenance, and human resources, to address EHS concerns effectively.
The successful candidate will assist in conducting regular safety inspections, compliance audits, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations. They will track and follow up on corrective actions, assist with regulatory inspections and audits, and maintain accurate records and documentation. The role also entails supporting environmental programs concerning hazardous materials management, waste management, stormwater and wastewater regulations, air quality controls, and chemical safety management. Coordination with external consultants, vendors, and regulatory agencies forms a critical part of the job.
Further responsibilities include developing and updating safety training programs, delivering hands-on training such as forklift safety, and leading safety orientation for new hires. The EHS Specialist will conduct incident investigations, analyze root causes, and help implement injury management and workers’ compensation processes. Emergency preparedness and risk management, including participation in drills and management of change processes, are also core duties.
In addition to these tasks, continuous improvement of EHS performance through data analysis, report preparation, and proactive initiatives forms an integral part of the role. This position demands the ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including cold storage and wet conditions, and requires personal protective equipment usage. Occasional overnight travel within the U.S. may be necessary.
Overall, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to impact safety and environmental practices in a leading seafood distribution company, supporting a mission-driven team dedicated to sustainability and quality.
