Job Description
Din Tai Fung North America is a renowned restaurant chain specializing in Taiwanese cuisine, particularly famous for its expertly crafted dumplings. Located at 1164 Galleria Way, Glendale, CA, Din Tai Fung offers a unique dining experience centered on quality, tradition, and exceptional customer service. As a global brand with multiple locations, Din Tai Fung prides itself on its prestigious reputation, culinary expertise, and commitment to maintaining high standards in food preparation and presentation. The company fosters an inclusive and dynamic work environment, valuing teamwork, continuous learning, and career growth opportunities for its employees. Din Tai Fung North America is also an equal opportunity employer, welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. The company participates in the E-Verify program to confirm the employment eligibility of all new hires in the United States. Working at Din Tai Fung means joining a passionate community dedicated to food excellence and cultural appreciation.
The role of Dumpling Trainee at Din Tai Fung offers an exciting entry point into the culinary arts, particularly focused on the preparation of one of the restaurant's signature dishes — dumplings. This position is designed as a hands-on training opportunity where new employees will learn essential skills such as measuring, cutting, rolling dough, filling dumplings, folding them with precision, and steaming to perfection. Trainees will work in a visible show kitchen environment, which requires maintaining a clean and professional appearance at all times, reflecting the brand's dedication to quality and hygiene. The training program thoroughly prepares candidates to advance from the Dumpling Trainee position to the Dumpling Prep role, which includes a competitive hourly wage increase upon promotion. Trainees will gain valuable experience in dough preparation — skills transferable to various culinary disciplines including pastry and pizza dough handling. This position requires motivated individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere and possess eagerness to learn and overcome challenges. The compensation for this role starts at $22.50 per hour, with salary considerations based on experience, expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
Employees benefit from a comprehensive package including medical insurance contributions for individuals and eligible dependents, dental, vision, life insurance, health savings account options, commuter spending accounts, 401(k) plan with company match, employee assistance programs, and discounts both on meals and through benefit platforms. Din Tai Fung also takes pride in promoting from within, offering career advancement pathways for its dedicated staff. As part of the job responsibilities, trainees will also support the overall kitchen cleanliness, organize storage areas, help with lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds, and participate in regular deep cleaning efforts. Confidentiality regarding proprietary recipes and standard operating procedures is paramount, reflecting the company’s commitment to protecting its culinary secrets and operational excellence. The role is not only perfect for those passionate about culinary arts but also ideal for individuals looking for a steady, rewarding position with growth potential in the hospitality industry.
