We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for those interested in starting a career in transportation through the role of a driver helper. This entry-level position within our Transportation department provides a critical support function to our route delivery drivers. The driver helper plays a vital role by assisting with the safe loading and unloading of products, which mostly consists of perishable foods and milk crates weighing over 40 pounds each.

In this physically demanding and fast-paced role, the driver helper supports deliveries to 15 to 20 customers on assigned routes. The role requires the careful stacking of merchandise on customer premises while following strict safety protocols and maintaining excellent customer service standards. Our helpers quickly become proficient in the operation of essential equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, truck lift gates, and electronic tracking devices including handheld computers and phones used to monitor delivery progress.

Apart from assisting with product handling, the driver helper provides invaluable support to the driver during travel. This includes acting as an extra set of eyes for safer lane changes, giving guidance during challenging backing, parking, or turning maneuvers by physically leaving the truck to assist the driver. This collaborative dynamic ensures a safer and more efficient delivery process.

One of the most rewarding aspects of joining our helper team is the pathway it offers to full professional driver status. Over 50% of our professional drivers began their careers as helpers and have advanced through our company-sponsored apprenticeship program to obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The driver helper role offers a competitive base pay starting at $18 per hour, with opportunities to earn up to $20 per hour through weekly performance bonuses.
