The role of the Driver Class B - Hourly is pivotal within the food supply chain. These drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive and drop routes. Their responsibilities extend beyond transportation to include customer interaction, inspection and maintenance of vehicles, proper loading and unloading procedures, and adhering to strict Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers are the face of the company when they interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers, building trust and fostering lasting relationships.

Additionally, the position demands comprehensive safety inspections before and after trips to ensure vehicles meet all DOT and company safety standards. Drivers must report any safety issues or repair needs promptly and follow company guidelines to maintain compliance. They perform checks to ensure freight is properly loaded, secured, and undamaged, verify the accuracy of invoices, and handle related paperwork with accuracy and legibility. The responsibility extends to unloading products and transporting them into designated customer storage areas, performing damage control, scanning orders, collecting payments when required, and managing returns and damaged goods according to company policy.

Drivers also maintain detailed records of their hours of service and comply with both federal and state regulations. They contribute to a clean and organized work environment by performing general housekeeping duties in their trucks, trailers, and loading docks. The role requires physical capability to hand-lift and utilize equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move products typically weighing between 10 and 35 pounds, with occasional loads up to 60-90 pounds depending on location.
