The role available is a vital position that directly influences the quality and nutritional value of meals served to students. This position involves planning and creating monthly menus that are nutritionally sound, cost-effective, and visually appealing to students, parents, and staff. The successful candidate will also conduct ongoing training sessions for kitchen staff focusing on food safety, food costs, cooking techniques, and food presentation to maintain high service standards. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • prior school foodservice experience desired
  • experience in culinary skills required
  • experience with restaurant, cafeteria budgeting and food costs required
  • food safety standards experience required
  • must possess a food handler's card within two weeks of hire if applicable
  • clear and professional communication skills required
  • basic computer skills including Microsoft Suite required
  • sensitivity and respect for people of various backgrounds, cultures, experiences and socio-economic situations required
  • basic cooking and cleaning skills required
  • level 1 background check clearance

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or related field preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook food as per recipes and production records
  • create new recipes using commodities and purchased products
  • conduct taste testing with customers for new products and recipes
  • conduct roving chef demonstrations
  • create student menus that are cost effective, appealing and nutritionally balanced
  • input menus into the nutritional analysis program
  • place food and supply orders that meet the needs of each school while maintaining cost control measures
  • conduct trainings with cooks in food safety, HACCP, food cost, cooking technique and food presentation
  • work with the Cafeteria Manager to ensure quality workmanship
  • follow all local and SFE health regulations
  • supervise and evaluate subordinate employees
  • submit reports as directed and in compliance with deadlines
  • perform other assigned duties
