Job Description

Greensboro Urban Ministry is a well-established 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1967, dedicated to serving the residents of Guilford County, North Carolina. This reputable organization focuses on providing lifelines such as housing solutions, safe shelter, food, and various support services throughout the year to the greater Greensboro community. Rooted in its mission to express the love of God to neighbors in need, Greensboro Urban Ministry operates with a heartfelt commitment to uplifting individuals and families by offering resources and assistance that promote stability and well-being. The ministry is guided by core values including compassion, community collaboration, and the belief that hope often represents the ultimate gift to those they serve. The organization embraces a welcoming environment where all individuals can connect, serve, grow, and initiate personal change while emphasizing the importance of stewarding resources carefully and fostering partnerships among nonprofits, faith communities, government, and neighbors to build a stronger community.

The job opening for the position of Dishwasher/Utility Worker falls under the Potter's House program within Greensboro Urban Ministry. This part-time, hourly, non-exempt role reports directly to the Director of Potter's House and involves working 20-25 hours per week during shifts from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on weekdays and weekends, reflecting the ministry's seven-day-a-week operation. The position plays a pivotal role in supporting the Potter's House Community Kitchen by assisting the chef, staff, and volunteers with meal preparation, kitchen cleanup, and maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining area. This role is vital to ensuring that meals and services are delivered efficiently and with dignity to the community members who rely on the ministry. The Dishwasher/Utility Worker engages in tasks including washing pots, pans, dishes, and kitchen equipment, sweeping and mopping floors to maintain hygiene standards, inventorying stock, and lending support in the dining room and takeout window when needed. Additionally, this role is founded on treating all clients, employees, and volunteers with respect, sincerity, and compassion, fully aligning with Greensboro Urban Ministry’s mission statement. The position also requires flexibility as other duties may be assigned by the Director of Potter’s House to meet operational needs. The work environment is a dynamic kitchen setting that requires the ability to handle varying temperatures and situations, providing a hands-on opportunity to contribute directly to the wellbeing of vulnerable populations in the Greensboro area. This role is ideal for compassionate individuals who desire to support a meaningful cause while gaining experience in a community-focused kitchen environment. The organization values diversity and is committed to equal employment opportunity practices, fostering an inclusive workplace free of discrimination or harassment based on a wide range of protected classes.
