Job Description

Intermountain Health is a not-for-profit health system based in Utah that operates multiple hospitals, clinics, and specialty care centers to provide high-quality healthcare to communities across the Intermountain West. Among its many facilities, the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, stands out as a leading hospital offering advanced clinical services and patient care. Intermountain Health prides itself on fostering a culture of wellness that supports the mind, body, and spirit of both patients and employees. The organization values diversity, inclusivity, and a commitment to providing outstanding healthcare while maintaining a safe and supportive work environment for its staff.

Located within Intermountain Medical Center's Culinary Services department, the Dishwasher/General Housekeeping role plays an essential part in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and smooth daily operation of the culinary and food preparation areas. This position is a PRN (pro re nata) role, meaning hours can vary from 0 to 40 per week depending on the needs of the department. The primary shift requirement is afternoon availability, approximately from 3:30 pm to 9:30 pm, including weekends. Candidates must be flexible to work 2 to 3 afternoon or night shifts weekly and may be asked to cover additional vacant shifts as needed.

The dishwasher's main responsibility is to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, and trays in accordance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements such as those set by the Health Department and Joint Commission. The role involves working around water, commercial dishwashing equipment, and standard cleaning chemicals. Employees in this position must maintain a sanitary and safe environment while adhering to proper handling procedures for chemicals and infectious waste. The ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams in the Culinary Department is key to ensuring departmental goals and patient satisfaction are consistently met.

This position requires a candidate with a keen sense of attention to detail, the physical stamina to perform manual tasks including lifting heavy items, bending, and standing for long periods, as well as strong communication skills. The dishwasher will be responsible for collecting carts with patient trays from various hospital floors, cleaning and disinfecting assigned dining areas, and correctly using cleaning chemicals following Joint Commission and OSHA standards. The role also demands reliable operation and routine maintenance of dishwashing equipment and related machinery.

Candidates must hold a valid Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification by their first day of work if employed in Utah or Idaho. Familiarity with reading and following color-coded chemical labels, communicating clearly, and operating housekeeping equipment is preferred. The position demands compliance with safety regulations and a commitment to uphold the organization's high standards of cleanliness and safety. Working at Intermountain Health offers more than just a job; it provides a chance to be part of an empathetic and mission-driven organization dedicated to improving health outcomes and employee well-being.

The hourly wage for this dishwasher role ranges from $17.00 to $21.75 based on experience, reflecting a competitive compensation package for part-time and flexible work schedules. Intermountain Health supports its caregivers through a generous benefits program covering health, wellness, and various employee support services to ensure staff members can thrive both professionally and personally. The employer is an equal opportunity organization encouraging qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply and contribute to its mission of delivering compassionate and effective healthcare services.
