The Food Service Worker position at Banner Estrella Medical Center plays a vital role within the Culinary and Nutrition Department. This full-time position operates primarily during night shifts, specifically requiring availability for varied hours including 1pm to 9:30pm and 5pm to 1:30am shifts, with weekend and holiday rotation obligations. The role involves critical responsibilities such as dishwashing, food tray pickup, and maintaining cafeteria cleanliness through activities like dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and disinfecting. Employees in this role are entitled to an additional 18% night shift differential for hours worked past 7pm and an additional $1 per hour weekend shift differential, recognizing the importance and demands of working these shifts. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to learn and follow established policy and procedures
  • Must be able to read and understand written and verbal instruction

  • Must be able to provide customer service
  • Must be able to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required
  • Must be able to operate a point of sale system when applicable
  • Food handler's card required within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services team members
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Prior dish and kitchen experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Set up work station and prepare all assigned foods and nourishments in the correct quantities, following established procedures, portion control and food quality standards
  • Assure food presentation continually meets standards
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, flatware, trays, cups, glasses and cooking utensils
  • Clean and sanitize designated equipment and kitchen areas
  • Dispose of all waste materials
  • Monitor dish machine temperature
  • Maintain par levels of foods and/or supplies in assigned areas
  • Order and/or restock items in accordance with established routines
  • Rotate food stocks
  • Check expiration dates
  • Check and record food and equipment temperatures according to defined procedures
  • Report any discrepancies to the supervisor
  • Deliver meals, nourishments, late trays and/or tube feedings to units
  • Return excess nourishments as requested
  • Assist in catering or special event service
  • Handle transactions at cash register and/or cafe, if applicable
  • Interact with food service department personnel, hospital staff, patients and families
  • Follow work routine with regular supervision
  • Work quickly and correctly while providing good customer service and maintaining sanitation standards
  • Follow instructions and guidelines for the use of cleaning chemicals
  • Work in physical contact with cleaning chemicals
