The role of Dish Machine Operator (DMO) at South Restaurant + Coffeehouse is a vital position that ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of all dishware used throughout the kitchen and dining areas. This role is well-suited for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced restaurant setting and who take pride in maintaining hygienic standards crucial to food safety and overall operational efficiency. The DMO is not only responsible for operating the dishwashing machinery but also assists in upholding a clean and orderly facility. This position involves critical attention to detail, including verifying that dish machines function properly across all cycles and ensuring the correct use of sanitizing chemicals.

The DMO works closely with multiple team members including the Lead DMO, Manager On Duty (MOD), Kitchen Supervisor, and both Back of House and Front of House Supervisors to coordinate duties, communicate proactively, and resolve any issues that arise during a shift. Flexibility is essential as the role encompasses opening, closing, and side work duties, all aimed at supporting seamless restaurant operations. The job can be either full-time or part-time, accommodating diverse scheduling needs.

Employees in this position must be prepared to work in an environment that demands physical endurance; standing and walking for long hours, handling tasks that require lifting, pushing, pulling, and other motions typical of intensive kitchen work. The DMO must possess a valid Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card and be at least 16 years of age. This role is classified as non-exempt and reports directly to senior kitchen staff including the Executive Chef and Sous Chef.

Job Requirements

  • Must have a current Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to work, standing and walking, in a fast-paced environment for up to 9 hours
  • Ability to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Job Qualifications

  • Must have a current Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to work standing and walking in a fast-paced environment for up to 9 hours
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
  • Attention to detail in maintaining sanitation standards
  • Reliability and ability to follow directions from multiple supervisors

Job Duties

  • Ensure that the dish machine is functioning correctly in all of its cycles
  • Ensure that the proper chemicals are being used both in the correct quantities and for the correct tasks
  • Can keep up with the fast-paced work environment of the restaurant
  • Follows the directions of the Lead DMO, MOD, and Kitchen Supervisor throughout their shift
  • Checks with the Kitchen Supervisor before leaving for any breaks and at the end of the shift
  • Complete all regular opening, closing, and side work shift duties and cleaning
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with both the Back of House Supervisor and Front of House Supervisor to identify and solve any issues
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the business
