The Director of Rooms at Hyatt is a critical leadership role within the hotel’s Executive Committee, reporting directly to the General Manager. This position entails overseeing several key hotel services, including Front Desk Operations, Housekeeping, Guest Services, and Security, ensuring operational excellence across all areas. The Director of Rooms is responsible for maximizing room revenue and occupancy by analyzing daily rate statuses, making strategic adjustments to pricing and availability to optimize hotel profitability. This role also involves coordinating large events with high volume occupancy and managing special requirements to deliver seamless guest experiences.
Beyond daily operations, the Director of Rooms plays a vital role in the strategic planning and execution of major projects such as renovations, capital expenditures, and the integration of new equipment. The position requires strong financial acumen to analyze rate variances, monitor credit reports, and maintain a close watch on daily house counts. Conducting weekly Rooms Division meetings and monthly financial reviews with subordinate managers and senior hotel leadership enables the Director of Rooms to maintain clear communication and alignment with corporate standards and goals.
This leadership role also includes recruitment, training, and development of subordinate managers and employees to ensure Hyatt’s service standards are consistently met and exceeded. The Director of Rooms is expected to possess a service-oriented style, deliver professional presentations, and embody the company’s values through effective coaching and counseling of staff. Experience with hotel pre-opening processes is preferred, providing the individual with skills to manage transitions and launch new properties successfully.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 6 years progressive hotel rooms experience
- Previous hotel pre-opening experience preferred
- Proven leadership and management skills
- Exceptional customer service abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultures
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- 6 years or more of progressive hotel Rooms experience typically with Hyatt
- Previous hotel pre-opening experience preferred
- Service oriented style with professional presentation skills
- At least 5 years experience in a senior role in a hotel rooms area
- Proven leadership skills
- Hotel or hospitality degree an asset
- Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills
Job Duties
- Responsible for short and long term planning and the management of the Rooms operations in the front and back of the house
- Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans and objectives and manages within those approved plans
- Experience supervising all Rooms Departments
- Ability to assimilate operational statistics quickly and see how they can be used to enhance position of property
- Experience developing standards and operating procedures
- Participate in MOD program
- Have dealt with special projects
- Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures
